Seasons :: Premiere Year

Don't know if this is a bug (should be working but isn't) or a suggestion ...

When adding/editing a season that began earlier than this year (2018) I can not add the premiere year but can add the premiere month. I'm in there (the season xx page) anyway so I'd like to be able to fill out as much known data as possible ... although it would be great if, for example, the system sees episode 1 of season 43 aired September 2017 that both fields are automatically updated without even visiting the page ... but I'll take being able to manually add 2017 ... or 1947 ... or any years in between.

I think the general thought behind it is that the premiere year/month is really only interesting for shows that haven't premiered yet.

For older shows you already have the episode airdates.

I'm pretty sure it was already suggested, long ago, that the system should use the airdate of the first episode of the season (regular or special) as the season premiere date. Apparently either there's some reasoning against it, or it's not a priority.

The season's first episode is in fact used for the season premiere date, see for example https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/1371/westworld/seasons. That's indeed the very reason we only allow future years for "premiere year", because setting a past year explicitly would be redundant and doesn't add any value.

It's been talked about before so I know it's not very obvious, but I'm not sure how to improve it.

What we've meant, is that if the season properties doesn't have month or year of premiere added, but the season already have 1st episode, the year and month of the season premiere should be taken from this episode (to be used in show info box for Running;Returning date). Having to add the same month and year twice is kind of redundant.
