"Massive Engineering Mistakes" scheduled for deletion

talibo wrote 4 years ago: 1

Hi,
"Massive Engineering Mistakes" was approved to add but is now scheduled for deletion cause
"same show as https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/36040/engineering-catastrophes
proof: https://britesparkfilms.com/portfolio/massive-engineering-mistakes/"

but if i compare episode contents description from https://www.discoveryuk.com/series/massive-engineering-mistakes/
and from https://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/1446220/engineering-catastrophes-1x01-stadium-disaster
they are different.
Plus season 1 doesn't have the same number of episodes, 6 for Engineering Catastrophes,10 for Massive Engineering Mistakes

I agree, this is not the same show, maybe some of the same content is covered but having watched both, they're different.

Someone in the edit request thread said it is the same show just with rearanged episodes, if I recall this correctly. I myself do not know it. You are saying you watched both and they are different.

@tnt  @TomSouthwell  @Thomas  was it one of you three who also watched it?

Nope nothing I have come across before now :)

Here's the direct quote from the production company's website:

on the top it says For Science Channel and Quest

and on the bottom: titled, ENGINEERING CATASTROPHES on Science

also on TCB Media (rights owner):
Broadcaster
TCB Originals / Science Channel

No mention of Discovery Science anywhere.

Besides that Discovery well known for "repacking" episodes, releasing the same stories multiple times in different combinations with each other on different channels.

For example, the first episode description of MEM speaks about Baltimore street, and here's the episode of EC called "Baltimore Street Disaster"

I suppose @tvjjbj12 could have more knowledge since he left many notes on those "repacks"

Except AFAIK there hasn't been further releases of "Engineering Catastrophes" and especially not covering all of the content here.

This show originally aired in the UK on Quest in 2018, so there's nothing new about it.

another example

Episode 5: "Plus, in Dallas, Texas, soaring temperatures and sunrays blaze and reflect into high-rise apartment building"

Episode 2x04: "A skyscraper causing hellish heat in downtown Dallas"

Just the same show with a different name and a different episode order like tnt said.... Correct to be deleted.

I've found and checked MEM episode 1x05 and EC episode 2x04, and they're exactly the same. With the one small difference: at the beginning of the episode they have an announcement for each location in the episode. There are 4 locations in this episode: Dallas, Amsterdam, Paris and Ripon. MEM has an announcement for all of 4 them, EC has only the first 3. Hence the 2 minutes discrepancy in episode runtime (44 vs 42 minutes). Everything else is exactly the same.

Case closed.
