Jeopardy episode questions

Jeopardy just announced that they are moving Alex Trebek's final 5 episodes to the week of January 4th 2021 and I have adjusted the upcoming new episodes dates accoringly. I had to start it as season 2021 temporairily as I have just started on the season 2010-2011 corrections and the rest have to be corrected before the current season is completely accurate. Anyway heres the question.

Jeopardy is running Alex Trebek's 10 favorite episodes between the week of December 21st and the following week. That does make these episodes a repeat of episodes aired in the past over the years so my thought is that they should not be marked as  a new episode. But with airing as Alex Trebek's favorites, does that make them some type of special, even a insignificant special? Can they be added on those dates as Alex Trebek's top 10..game 1, game 2, etc. but with the date aired and no episode number?

If I understand it correctly, you are saying that they are merely repeating older episodes that made it to television before with no new footage in the order of his favourite episodes?

If that's the case, none of the episodes should be listed as episode nor as special and should be ignored.

At this point in time I do not know if they are adding any additional footage or not, they have only announced that they are running his favorite 10 episodes over the holiday weeks and moved the final 5 new episodes that Alex recorded to after the holidays to avoid his final episodes being prempted. If there is no additional footage in them, I figured they should not be added as new or a special. I just wanted to be prepared for what to do properly if there is new footage added to previously existing episodes when they are presented. Figured knowing what to do beforehand will help keep the continuity of the guide going with the least delays in new information.

As there are too many uncertainities like you've said I think the safest bet is to wait till an episode has aired.

I know this doesn't fall under news per policy, but this is the type of info I think TV Maze should be trying to capture somewhere. I'd be interested in knowing what his favourite episodes were, and why. Perhaps it's the Mycroft in me but all info is important and this info should be kept here, under the show, for posterity and as possible future click bait for curious fans of the show. If we don't serve the need, someone else eventually will. ymmv

I agree with what your saying, I brought this up because I have goofed with data before and want to make sure I am not making a mistake. One possibility is to put the 10 episodes as a list in a response to the last episode aired right before his 10 favorites are aired. This is one possibility if the 10 episodes are aired with no extra new additional footage. Listing them with the original airdates in a response with airdate, episode number and maybe what stood out. If they are aired with additional footage how to handle them will be discussed then. One way or another there will be a way to present the info that will follow TVMaze's parameters.

Sounds more like trivia.

Which if I remember correctly, david wasn't opposed to adding if enough people wanted it (but don't quote me on that).

That's correct. The only thing that's holding that back is a firm policy proposal... because without one, such a section would turn into a chaos. If someone wants to get that ball rolling... ;-)

Been thinking on this issue, about Alex Trebeks favorite episodes and other shows that have similar episodes with their actors, directors, creators etc. It seems like the Alternate list section for a show would be the  correct place for something like this, but the way it is currently configured, there is no way to appropriately enter a list as such. I think a data field or two in the choices presented for the alternate lists would be a good way to go. Set it for existing episodes, a selection field allowing choice of actor or director and a field that would allow that persons name to be entered would be the best route to go since a way to enter a separate list already exists.

As for firm policy I think for episodes to be added under a favorite list name etc, the episodes should either be announced as such by the Official Website, or as upcoming event during a airing of a existing episode of said program. Example, airings of different Star Trek series have announced upcoming special re-airings of previous episodes as actors in the shows favorites. Then they would run a set number of those episodes.

I didn't see the discussion about a trivia section four months ago (maybe this needs a separate thread?) but my two cents:

There are legit bits of trivia out there for any number of shows.

1. Silly credits

2. the occasional after-credits bit

3. Certain Hitchcockian cameos and/or running gags (Director Will Waring always hides pineapples on the sets of episodes he directs, for example. A list of timestamps for where to look for said pineapples in his episodes would be worthwhile for fans)

4. nuggets of interesting info regarding filming, etc.

The problem is, these are rarely things discussed in press releases or anything necessarily 'official'. It is fandom knowledge acquired over the years. I'm all for some sort of trivia section, I think they can be fun and informative for fans. The trick would be vetting the information (looking at the Stargate Atlantis listing at IMDb, for example, there are a number of things listed that are wrong) if we aren't fans of the show in question. Another issue is making sure it's actual trivia, not the lists of coincidental nonsense that get posted to IMDb. We would also need to decide if this was information noted at the show level or the episode level.

As for the Jeopardy episodes, @drosso46561 did you ever find out if there was new content added to the episodes in question?

No there was no actual new content added to the episodes other than a brief statement about it being a favorite, they were just aired as Alex's 10 favorites 1 per day, 5 per week during the 2 week period so they were not added to the episode listing. However I did go back to the original airing dates of those individual episodes and added a note to the summary of each stating that that episode was a favorite, did it in bold so it would stand out when a user does the detailed episode listing display that includes the summary.
