Integration with TheMovieDB

tnt wrote 3 years ago: 1

Last I checked, TMDb's data for TV shows was mostly crap. Kinda like IMDb.

@tnt I checked it out earlier today and it seems (at first sight) that they have a good dataset of the episodes and characters in each episode, so that’s why I wanted to suggest them

It would take a lot of data-entry effort to find the new external ID for our more than 55.000 shows. And as you can see in Edit Requests, even after the initial effort, maintaining the externals still takes a lot of effort because the external parties tend to frequently delete/re-create/change their listings. This is not likely to happen unless there's an extremely good reason for it.

TMDb id integration would be great! Please consider adding this :)

The issue is not adding it, it's maintaining it.

Now that I saw Michael's request I also think we should remove TVRage.

I'd support that. It doesn't look like it's updated anymore.

TVRage have been dead for a decade or so. You can't add or edit these IDs anymore, but the ones we have are still available through the API. Which made sense for a while, so people could update their code but now it's pretty useless.

As for adding new externals I agree with Jan, lets start fixing/maintaining the ones we already have as the support for them aren't all that great.
