I do not know how important this is to anyone or the site in general however I thought I should bring it to your attention concerning Netflix air times. I see that all the shows listed on the site show their Eastern timezone air time. Therefore I thought you should know that Netflix air times showing anywhere on the Internet as 3 AM is their Pacific air time and not their Eastern air time. This was a very long heated discussion/debate at the other TV site I work at so the STAFF contacted Netflix directly to verify this fact as being true therefore their shows really air in the Eastern timezone/period at 12:00 AM or as they claim 12:01 AM. Most of which air on Fridays with a few exceptions. If you wish I can correct the airtimes on any shows I find airing on Netflix as I come across them?

For me personal the netflix airtimes do not matter, as they mostly show a whole season on one day, but you can of course correct them if you come across some mistakes :)

cheers

Don't bother about it :), 12 am or 3 am, who cares? It is still the same day

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

Real nice, I only mentioned it because I thought and hoped this site wanted to be different and better than any other TV site on the Internet and a step in that direction is being as accurate as possible? That "who cares" type of mentality or attitude does not fly with me at all!

Calm down. Just because I said something that doesn't suit you, doesn't mean you should generalize all staff of TVMaze, which you do by sending this message, but I'm pretty sure that nobody cares about it whether it is 3 am pacific or 12 am Eastern as it's a webchannel and TVMaze didn't implement timezones in their airing dates I believe, so the 3 am might be as accurate as the 12 am is :)

Once again "real nice" as you say - "doesn't mean you should generalize all staff". When in my POST to I even hint at that I man anyone else but you? I don't appreciate anyone putting words in my mouth or assuming they know what I mean when they don't! Me calm down how but you not letting your panties bunch up or get in a wad?

If we can't be civil adults to each other, than I will take my ball and go home if you don't need my help around here?

Jaguardog, if you like the site and what it stands for, then stay and be part of the team. You already made your suggestion so now just see what others have to say about it. So far, we haven't had any squabbles and I would like it to stay that way. Comment on the subject at hand only and not the person or group. Else we won't get to a resolution regarding the action that needs to be taken. Rule 1 2 and 5 of the forum apply here. STAY ON TOPIC AND HAVE FUN!!!

I'll post my own opinion on the netflix timezone subject once i've researched it. ;)

david wrote 10 years ago: 1

Yes, be nice please! Everybody's free to have their own opinion, regardless of whether that's "this is important" or "who cares" :-)

Back on topic: I'm not sure here. Are Netflix seasons dumped at exactly the same time throughout their customer base/the world; or is it a more gradual process?

JuanArango wrote 10 years ago: 1

Jaguardog, you are more than welcome here. :)

But sometimes some things are important to one but not important to one another.

If we all would think the same, the world would be a boring place to live in.

cheers
Juan

Thank you very much David, Juan & Kathy (in alpha order, not necessarily in importance that way everyone is equal). I appreciate your comments as far as your question "Are Netflix seasons dumped at exactly the same time throughout their customer base/the world; or is it a more gradual process?" I won't say "who cares" because I am sure there is someone who does somewhere in the Galaxy or Universe? I am very sorry but I really don't have a clue as to the answer to that question!

JuanArango wrote 10 years ago: 1

Guess we would need to ask a netflix subscriber for this, anyone know one ?

It is upped at the exact same moment, which is 03:01 AM EST & 12:01 AM PST, so I was saying who cares? about those different times on Netflix as both airing times are at the exact same time, but seems someone got offended by it, most sites use the 03:01 AM EST, so I guess that must be the most common one to be shown.

@Juan, I use Netflix, but I can't tell you as I'm not going to wait a whole night for the series to be released haha.

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

One small correction if you do not mind? You have the times reversed as it is 3:01 AM PST & 12:01 EST. Not a big deal and "who really cares" but I thought I should point that out so as not to allow any possible confusion by anyone in the future? In case anyone here is confused about time zones here is a good example using Netflix?

3:01 AM PST / 2:01 AM MST / 1:01 AM CST / 12:01 AM EST

JuanArango wrote 10 years ago: 1

Guess we got that problem solved now :)

3:01 AM PST / 2:01 AM MST / 1:01 AM CST / 12:01 AM EST

But in that case you could go on forever as Netflix has a worldwide offer. It's quite pointless to add all those timezones

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

I never said add them (or any for that matter) I was only using them as an example so if there was someone who did not know how they worked could now understand?

In general, the "air" time for web-channel shows isn't very important, if one is known ahead of time at all.

For Network shows, it's a very important property, because it's used to create the schedule: it determines when exactly you have to turn on your TV if you don't want to miss the episode. But for web channels, you'll just watch the episode whenever you feel like it. They aren't even shown on our schedule, because dumping an entire season at once (Netflix style) can't be fit in a schedule-like layout.

I'd say that unless a web channel specifically announces the time at which an episode will be released (like in a press release, "Season X will be available from January 10, 8PM"), we should just leave it empty. Even if they do announce something it's ambiguous: is it available for watching for a US vs. a UK customer at exactly the same time, or do different countries have different release schedules?

This makes me think that perhaps the airtime property should even be removed completely for web-channel shows.
