Brit, Detective Liz Danvers has her work cut out for her!  Eight workers vanish without a trace! I'm hoping they don't lean too far into the supernatural, but I'm surely looking forward to learning more about her and her state trooper partner! True Detective: Night Counrty has finally popped up on my TV schedule, granted, it's still a couple weeks away, but it's there!!  LOL

Yes, I've been with Miss Scarlet since the beginning, so I'm looking forward to her return. Also All Creatures airing immediately after.

On my PBS it's showing Funny Woman as a 'new' series but it sounds awfully familiar, pretty sure it aired on my tv in the fall? Then there's a big gap in programming until March!

Appara, I checked, the series is coming up on my PBS station this Sunday as well. I have never seen it before, so I am going to give it a go.

Yes,  I have!  I have been doling it out slowly as I don't want it to end too quickly... this season has been soo good! I am an episode passed that scene -or two- I am not sure, but a " big" event is coming this season and I don't want to say too much not knowing where you are, to spoil it.

I never, in a million years, expected that to come out of Agnes mouth. That woman is a pistol. So well played by C. B., her timing is impeccable.

Thanks again for mentioning "Funny Woman", watched the first episode and this series has great potential. I am certainly going to continue on. I would have missed it if you hadn't said something.

Solar, you might want to check out "Fool Me Once" on Netflix. It is getting a lot of hype - I think people are going a bit overboard with that, but it is definitely one to binge - full of intrigue and intensity. They certainly  know how to end on a cliff hanger each episode. Really good twist of events as well, and you know I like a story with a good twist. It does drag in parts, they stretched some scenes a bit too far, but overall a solid, interesting watch.

Yeah  Brit  ...   Lookin'  out the window at a  windy / snowy  /  rainy   ....   messy , messy  day.  lol    Don't have  Netflix anymore  but  thinkin' about picking it up again thou.   Will  keep  '  Fool  Me  Once '  in  mind .

Sorry Brit, I couldn't wait to watch while you gallivanting across the pond on your fab xmas holiday!  I watched this whole 2nd season in 4 days flat! Heartbreak and Happiness, these people know how to take us for a ride! I'm pretty sure I know what the 'discord' will be between Bertha and George when they bring on Season 3!!

Solar, we too are in a bit of a deep freeze.  The next few days are going to be chilly - right now we are -24c, and the weather gods are calling for a low of -30c on Friday. I hope this wind disappears before then!!  But I really can't complain, we had NO snow on the ground until this last week, so on the plus-side our city snow removal budget is way ahead!!  LOL

solar wrote a year ago: 1

-30c  .....   OUCH  !!!   only thing good about today  appara  is it's  +8c now  .   That's  +8c  this afternoon , early morning was below  0 , so we got snow .  Wild  temp. swing .

Appara, I didn't realize what heartbreak was to come as I had just finished the wedding episode when I last posted. Oh my, I had tears in my eyes... would have never had guessed that was where we were going. I know these stories are based loosely on real lives - I don't know if this situation actually had happened in real life, but the stories that could have been had we had the chance to see Ada and her husband live their live's to the fullest, with Agnes (this time) a step behind giving us full commentary as we go. A wonderful lost opportunity in my eyes.

I have the finale episode to go, my last view ended with the look of horror on Agnes face when she was told almost all the family money was gone. A huge ouch in anyone's book, much less the grand dame Agnes! Very interested to see how this will play out. So glad we have Season 3 to look forward to.

Hey, All!

Snow day here, second of the past week. Lazily watching various series these days since I have finished "The Gilded Age". Great finale, Appara! Love that Ada now has the upper hand... well, with Agnes never quite the "upper" hand, maybe a better way to describe it is "equal". She's got the money though, that for sure puts her in an elevated position. I had a feeling that this was going to happen, the moment that she talked about all the paperwork she had to go through since the Reverend's death I thought, oh yes, Ada's future has changed - she is a woman of independent means.

I am not going to be watching "True Detective" this season and I am fine with it as I am reading that the writers have upped the horror aspect with this story. The Hubs had a hissy fit with Xfinity this past week, they raised the bill or charged us for something that he took issue with and he cancelled the premium package. So no more HBO max, etc. I think now that he has calmed down he is thinking "what did I do!", as he watches those channels much more than me and he is missing his movies. He did just finish rewatching "The Sopranos" as they celebrated the 25th anniversary with a rerun of the series, so at least he did that. We are going to stick with it even though he is wavering a bit, 'cause the bill was insane. When "The Gilded Age" comes back in 2025 I'll get Max back then - apparently it can now be streamed through Prime, so that will be an option when that time comes without having to go through Xfinity.

Anyway, how are you finding this season? I do want to hear your opinion, please share as you watch as I am all ears.

Found a new series... "Monsieur Spade". Watched the first episode last night - need to give it a chance, must watch to the end as it picks up mid-way through. It is done in a brooding, noir style and is located in France, so definitely something that would grab me. I am not sure you all would like it... Deedee, it has aspects that you would like, although whether you have the patience for the slow burn of it I don't know. Solar, the dual language would probably get to you. Appara, I think this might be something you would like as you watched the new "Perry Mason".

There are two ways to watch - AMC (not +) which is available to many with non premium cable and also streaming on  Acorn TV.

Brit, I too have thought about ditching my subscription, mostly because there is getting to be less & less that I'm interested in watching. Seems like there's more and more 'reality' filling up the timeslots. Drag shows don't appeal to me, I'm too old for teenagers discovering their sexuality, and the movie repeats have repeated too many times!!  LOL

But - Night Country

In this first episode, we are meeting the characters and immediately getting thrown right into the mystery. I won't give anything major away, in case you decide to stream at a later date. This first episode flew by really fast - of course, enigmatic flashes of the two in past careers/lives are more confusing than helpful at this point! They are working together, but there is more than a bit of tension from a previous (unsolved) case. Yes, there is a supernatural vibe going on, which Navarro and the townspeople are definitely more accepting of than Danvers. I am looking forward to meeting and learning more about the main characters, as this town of Ennis is showing to be full of secrets.

We must both be starting off this Saturday morning with premiere updates Brit!  LOL

I did watch M. Spade, translations and all! With only 6 episodes, I think this one is going to move along fairly quickly now that we have the backstory mostly in place.

deedee713 wrote a year ago: 1

appara, don't you love the faux reality series, heck they even have a category for it in the Emmys.

I'm not yet sorry I ditched the so-called premium package. As long as I have Law & Order numerous times a week and Elementary, and PBS Passport and Britbox and Acorn remain decent, I'm good.

Brit, I had to think hard on who that 'old' man was! Clive Owen, imagine that. As usual, you know me too well, Brit! I was going to quit, but perhaps I should not. And, I do want that villa, holy cow.

But as to the good stuff - Miss Scarlett and the Duke, episode 2, seriously? One more episode to go, more's the pity. Abiding, just, Funny Woman. So far the favorite, The Seaside Hotel. Looking forward to Moonflower Murders - the sequel to Magpie Murders has a new name?; Grantchester; perhaps some non-costume others are on the PBS list.

No matter, as long as the dog won't wear booties, it's inside and television for us!

Yes Brit  ...   not a fan of subtitling .  Can't get into a show where I have ta take my eyes off the screen to read what's below.  Give it in English or not at all , lol .  Have been laying low  and watching   ' Silent Witness '  and  ' Shetland '  both of which are stacked up in PVR . Oh, and a little bit of  ' Rebus ' on   knowledge .  that fills in  nicely.  Watched a few eps. of   ' Yellowstone '  and got interested ,  now I watch'm all .  living on the East coast I have a fascination for the western plains , I guess..  Am enjoying  Sunday nights with  '  All  Creatures ...   PBS   that's my feel good show .

Enjoy hearing what everyone is watching as we are hunkering down in this winter weather.  I am usually not a big movie watcher, but I find that I look for light and easy watches that I can devour in a few hours on cold, snow filled afternoons so a movie fits the bill. If you are in the same mood, I recommend "Martian" which is currently playing on TNT. One of my favorites, it's a great feel good movie that will leave you smiling.

Deedee, I agree with Appara, "Monsieur Spade" is going to pick-up the speed as we move on from the first episode - the story will get more complex and I think this is going to be an interesting one, so I would give it another chance before I would throw in the towel. We don't get a chance to see much cinema noir these days (boy, do I miss the days of watching Bruno Cremer's "Maigret", French noir at its' best) so I am sticking my feet in to this one.

Brit, I had to think hard on who that 'old' man was! Clive Owen, imagine that.

Same with me! I kept saying (to myself), can't be! It was. As Solar says, time is a thief.

Appara, please continue with the "True Detective" updates when you can and don't worry about spoilers 'cause nothing you can say in print would take away from the experience of watching. You feel these stories as much as you watch them, so even if I watched it two years from now your synopsis/comments would not effect that experience.

Oh, btw, speaking of "Seaside Hotel" , Deedee, that is a favorite of mine as well. Appara got me watching it about two/three years ago and I kept up with it until the Nazis showed up - at that point I stopped because I didn't want to go there. Such a good series! It always makes me want to find a similar place that I would want to visit every year or so (and see familiar faces).

Solar, you are watching some really good ones! Hope you are enjoying "Shetland". And, "Rebus" is a great watch as well. I never got in to "Silent Witness" and haven't gone down the path of "Yellowstone" yet, although people rave about it.

I did watch a little bit of "All Creatures" and plan to do more of that along with "Funny Woman".

Death in Paradise returns for 13th season with milestone 100th episode:  https://www.bbc.com/mediacentre/2024/death-in-paradise-return-date

Hello Sheerwater! Hope all is well with you. Glad to hear DIP is coming back for another season. I just finished watching the latest Christmas Special - I saved it in my pile of things to watch over the winter months, but as that had dwindled to almost nothing, I broke down and put it on. It is good, really enjoyed it. Neville's mom is a pistol - would not have imagined her to be so bright and outgoing...she really lights up a room. Hope she visits again. I feel quite cemented with this new group, they have completely grown on me.

I'm currently in the first series of DIP, watching DI Richard Poole solve the cases! My Detroit PBS station is airing from the beginning, I'm just not sure how close they will bring me to DI Neville Parker.

Brit, North Country (eps 2&3) is a swirling mess of questions and no answers. Well, I shouldn't say no answers, just answers that leave more questions!! We have two mysteries, a cold case Annie - the Native woman who was murdered and mutilated, and the frozen pile of researchers. Something connects them.

Also, we now know why Danvers and Navarro are a touch edgy with each other. Goes back to a previous case they worked together - a young abused girlfriend is eventually murdered by her boyfriend, who, altho alive and creepy when the two walk into the scene of the crime, ended up in their report as dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. I'm not totally thinking murder. I'm thinking that one or the other could have prevented him from shooting himself and didn't, or perhaps one encouraged him to pull the trigger on himself?

We have a manhunt!  Ray Clark! He had a relationship with the murdered Annie, who was found with a couple dozen stab wounds, and no tongue. The same tongue that turned up in the lab. Now that the pile of scientists is starting to thaw, it's discovered that there are only seven, not eight. Ray Clark just turned into a person of interest. Also of interest is scientist Lund who came to life after having a frozen limb snapped off. He's now awake and talking, but goes into convulsions after delivering a couple cryptic sentences. Cellular research lab? man survives being frozen? possible? We have also been front and center in the tense relationship between Danvers and Captain Hank, who might be involved in this whole mess, or may just turn out to be a sexist ass.

I've also got episodes of Vigil, S02 stacking up on my PVR. I'm saving it for when All Creatures and Miss Scarlet come to an end.

Appara, thank you for taking the time to get me caught up with the storyline, I enjoyed your synopsis immensely!

I am living on "Monsieur Spade" at the moment .... I look forward to every new episode drop. I am eating it up as I have come to realize that it has been quite a while since I watched any noir (style) drama  - and how much I miss it.  Deedee, I know you have most likely cashed it in by now (on the series) - I can see (feel) that it probably has gotten on your last nerve. I'm happily rolling with it though, even with the few imperfections that it might have.🙂

"Death in Paradise" has changed so much through years... Di Poole, the OG!  The latest season is coming to Britbox in February. I read somewhere that there is going to be another spin off - not sure what (or who) that involves.
