The site AD's are getting more and more intrusive by the day!

Hey everyone, to address the thread topic I would like to clarify what's normal ad behaviour on TVmaze. We limit our ads to a maximum of three on any given page and are firmly against pop ups, pop unders, roll overs etc. (Basically anything that might detach itself from the page layout itself.) We are currently working with two ad providers that have strict ad policies. It could still be the case that something slipped through. We see the site exactly as any other user and don't want to be bothered by any weird ads either. We also put great care into integrating ads in a fashion that does not disrupt the user experience, rather it should compliment it. If anyone sees an ad that doesn't fit the description We'd appreciate it if you'd report it instead of using an adblocker on the site. This way we can prevent the ad from being served to anyone else. Making TVmaze the best tv data provider is not only about the content but the entire experience of getting to the required data.

Thanks Jan but asking us NOT to use an ad blocker is really asking too much of us as we do not want to see these intrusive ads. I reported the ones at the beginning of this thread that I found or should i say found me. It just so happens that I must assume they have been here the entire time and when my ad blocker somehow disappeared for some strange reason all those annoying ads then appeared.

This leads me to believe based on what you are saying that 1 or more advertisers on the Internet are forcing their unwanted ads into/onto unsuspecting websites to get FREE space without the owners knowing. This is of course all speculation on my part but I didn't see any at all for 5 months then my ad blocker does a disappering act and then they appear and I get my ad blocker back and they disappear from my view again. You guys may have to do some investigating into these companies trying to get free ad space on the site without anyone's knowledge?

It's not the site, it's specific to your computer. If you are seeing something like in the screenshot that "bungle" posted, those are not ads for this website, they are ad-popups from some malware that has made its way onto your computer. I'm willing to be they show up when you are on other sites as well.

The reason you are able to get/use this awesome website for FREE is because it is ad-supported, which is why I agree with Jan that you shouldn't do it :)

I hope you guys are getting paid a lot of money for all of the ad's that there are here now on the site? Some of these very annoying ad's take control of the page I am working on and automatically scroll the page down and force me to look at the ad's which is very annoying. Especially having to constantly look at all the floosies/hookers and dating sites.
I know you need the revenue to keep the site going but there must be a better way to have these ads displayed then taking control of the page we are trying to work on and scrolling it down?
If I could afford it I would offer to buy my way out of having to see and put up with these very annoying ads that just waste my time!

You might want to take a look at this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/w...

I would also suggest you to update your Java as most ad malware are .jre or .js scripts gone wrong.

First off you are wrong, the ads I have seen in the past 2 weeks I have never ever seen before on any other site anywhere at any time!

Secondly I am quite aware that ads help keep the site running as I stated in my first post in this thread at the very top if you took the time to read it all the way through.

Lastly just because ads pay to keep the site going it doesn't mean I have to be bothered with ones that are overly intrusive or take control of a page I am trying to do constructive work on. Ads are just what they are meant to be ads to advertise their product not to force themselves upon anyone by taking control away from the user!

I don't mind the ads so much, as long as they're not interfering with the loading of pages.

well it seems whatever you guys did to fix the problem I was having worked because I'm not seeing that security warning anymore.

good job guys ;)

ps. pretty sure it wasnt a problem with malware on my machine. lol

Actually guys, don't use adblock plus, it lets in a tons of ads that are deemed acceptable, the new adblock is ublock. I'm not saying use it for here, you can disable it, for sure. I do on some websites where i can't donate and I use regularly but adblock plus is pretty much useless these days.

Jaguar, to upload a picture, you print screen with whatever image program you use, then you upload to this site http://postimage.org/ you click on "browse" then choose the picture, i always save them on deskstop, it's easier, then click on upload or transfer, then you need to choose "Link" not direct link, that doesn't work at all (because the image will show in the post but when you click on "reply" and you past it in here, you don't have to use the "link" code next to "deleted". Hope that helps

The hell? You can just use the .jpg link of the image instead of doing all this. Right click, copy image location. If that is disabled then you can fing the jpg link in the source code or you could check properties of the image online for the same.

AdBlock Plus works great for me and has for 3 years now, never had one problem with it. Now aftewr \saying that I must admit I tried to use their so called new and improved AdBlock called "Super AdBlock Plus" and that is total garbage and not only does not work properly it does all of that stuff you claim that the old regular AdBlock Plus does? Super AdBlock Plus is the one everyone needs to avoid like the plague because it is very dangerous!

that method didn't work for me. i pasted a weblink for a screenshot earlier and it pasted the actual image in the edit box. but after i hit send, the pic just vanished; like it automatically deleted it on its own. =/

that's why i had to use an url shortener, because it wouldn't let me paste the actual weblink to the jpg..when I did it would paste in the raw image but then not show up after I hit reply.

Sorry to here you are having those problems again, good luck if you try AdBlock Plus. I found it again real easy via google search for a Free Pop-Up Blocker. I added it to my GOOGLE Chrome not sure if it will work as good on any of the other Internet choices out there?

Not sure about bungle but before I re-added AdBlock Plus I was getting most of my problems if not maybe all on the Cast page whenever I would go back to begin to add their photos?

No, you can't. Try it, you'll see. It displays fine when you type your reply, as soon as you "reply" the image is nowhere to be found

Jaguar, you can use adblock plus, it's your choice. I'm just telling you what is happening with adblock or edge. Ublock is the new iteration of the same thing. If you use Firefox, go to their addons. You choose the latest one. Adblock is always going to win, it's the oldest, it's not doing it's work properly, some ads go through.

Adblock states that it's intentions are not to block advertisements entirely, but just to remove the annoying ones.

Sorry but I don't understand most of what you said or for that matter most of what anyone here has said as it's mostly all over my head but I do know you are correct about it doesn't work well at on on Firefox but it works great on Google Plus. Besides that I have nothing but multiple problems with Firefox every single day. Not sure if it's the way my PC reacts to Firefox or not but I don't have problems with Internet Explorer or GOOGLE Chrome.

Firefox crashes for me between 5 and 20 times every single day if i have more than 2 windows open, it's just a piece of Dog doodie to me, Firefox as a whole that is.

Speaking of video problems, I don't understand most of the things all of you guys have been talking about or most of anything at all releated to the Internet for that matter but I was having all kinds of problems for about 3 months earlier this year with videos coming up for no reason and then whatever site I was on would slow way down until it froze up then crash.

Somehow I found out by accident that it was either a plug-in or something that runs, controls videos just disappeared off of my PC and I had no more problems. Whatever it is my PC still needs it put back on to view videos at a lot of different sites but I decided not to try and figure it out because I would rather not be able to see videos then to have PC problems?

Did you follow the instructions to upload an image that you had print screened and saved as a jpg using paint or any other image program you use and try the method. Print screen is a copy, you need to paste it somewhere.

Firefox, IE or chrome use addons, you don't need to go to download.com. Just go to their services. either google store, addons for firefox and i have no idea for IE cause i have not use that in ages, plus it's being replaced by Edge with Win 10. Google Plus has nothing to do with anything... it's just a service by Google, the search engine.

Which version of Firefox, what OS are you on. You should have no problem with FF if you have the latest one and are on Win 7 or higher. if you do, just do a complete uninstall. And there are tutorials that will explain everything. If you're using Win Xp or something even older, i'd advise a new computer if you can buy one.
