Ratings Roundup for the Week of December 1, 2019

FOX premiered its holiday series, The Moodys, last week. The Denis Leary-led series opened well, and will play through the month of December. These short, gap-filler, programs are becoming more and more common to fill the schedules at the end of the year (ABC and NBC have their holiday-exclusive fare as well), so it's hard to say what the series will need in order to see another holiday season next year. The Masked Singer continues to shine for the network. It was down a tenth from its last new episode, but is in no danger. 9-1-1 and The Resident were even with the previous week.

The CW returned last week with new episodes for all of its programs. The Flash remains king, up a tenth from the previous week. Supernatural also bounced up a tenth, see they really need more Christian Kane, to take the second place spot. Batwoman was steady, both for ratings and viewers. It will be interesting to see how the massive crossover, Crisis On Infinite Earths, affects the numbers for the lower rated Supergirl and Black Lightning next week.

ABC had several Christmas specials and football on its schedule last week. The Great Christmas Light Fight premiered its seventh season last week. Charlie Brown, always a perennial holiday favorite, once again scored well for the network. Some of the other specials, not so much. The Good Doctor, Stumptown, and The Rookie were all even with the previous week. The Goldbergs was down a tenth from its last new episode.

CBS saw a return to reality for its Thursday night lineup. Young Sheldon shed almost two ratings points as it dropped back down to its more normal numbers, though it was up a tenth from its last, non football-inflated, week. Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum PI were also down. NCIS Los Angeles was up a tenth, Evil was steady, but low. Expect to see the series pushed off to late spring or even summer when it returns next season.

Last week's superhero shows that are in the crossover were pretty good on DC, or at least I thought so. With Black Lightning, I'm still playing catch-up on. Same with Evil However, for me, after I catch up on Evil and watch the Fall/Winter finale, I'm leaning toward removing it from the shows I DVR and watch later. I thought it started out good and pretty soon got dull for me. I'm liking Young Sheldon and Mom on CBS and Goldbergs on ABC. I stay tuned for Schooled, and I find it somewhat hit and miss for keeping me entertained.
