Syd is a mutant with the ability to switch her consciousness into another human body by touching them skin-to-skin. She does not gain any of the knowledge or memories of the person she is touching, although she does gain their mutant powers. However, Syd has no idea of how they work and may not even be aware of them if they are not obvious. She prefers not to touch anyone unless deliberately initiative her power, and wears gloves to prevent contact.
Whille Syd is occupying someone else's body, their consciousness occupies her body. The duration of the transfer varies, and may be dependent on the length of contact. When Syd reverts to her own body, she sometimes appears where her target was but sometimes along with her original body. And sometimes she appears where her original body is. The reason for this variation are not known.
