Ratings Roundup Week of December 10, 2017

The holiday season hit last week as more and more specials and repeats aired across all five networks. Most programs will either not air at all or air repeats for the next couple of weeks.

There were no real surprises for CBS last week. The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon topped the ratings chart again. NCIS continued to show why its not going anywhere, no matter how much the cast changes as its still the highest rated drama; it will get made as long as Mark Harmon wants to make it. Back-to-back episodes of Hawaii Five-0 did well, and The Eye lost nothing ratings-wise by pulling Blue Bloods for the week. Wisdom of the Crowd and 9JKL were just marking time before the end. Wisdom will air its last episode January 7, 9JKL won't be far behind.

ABC had a rough week in terms of scandals for daytime and prime time programs. The Great American Baking Show was unceremoniously pulled last week after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against one of the judges. The network was mum on whether or not the show was actually canceled, though none of the remaining episodes for season three will air. Double episodes of The Great Christmas Light Fight will fill the schedule hole for the rest of the month. Disney's Frozen and Olaf's Frozen Adventure did well for the network; will Frozen become a holiday tradition for ABC in December? Hopefully fans of Ten Days in the Valley had their calendars marked as the episode burn-off for the series began last week. The program will wrap up its last episode January 6.

Football and The Voice dominated the ratings for NBC again last week while the network managed only two scripted shows last week. Chicago Med slipped slightly from last week, but shouldn't be in any danger. Good news for Blindspot fans, the show was steady compared to last week. The less good news was a repeat of game show, The Wall, beat it. With that said, the series is only in season three so a season four is almost a guarantee.

FOX was gifted with an NFL overrun last week which gave its Sunday night comedy lineup a healthy boost. Empire and Star also saw a bit of a bump over last week. The Exorcist ended its second season last week and unless the schedulers have another half season show in mind for next season, Exorcist should be done. Lethal Weapon, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Gifted were all steady last week. Lucifer dipped a tenth.

The CW ran specials most of last week, though they did manage one more scripted program than NBC. Riverdale enjoyed the view from the top of the chart while Valor and Dynasty pulled their usual numbers. Fans of Valor can be rightly upset now as an repeat episode of Whose Line is it Anyway beat a new episode of Dynasty. A full season order is not a guarantee of renewal for Dynasty, but Valor was already kicked to the curb by not getting any sort of episode extension.

Just like the networks, Ratings Roundup will be on hiatus the next two weeks. Hope you have a happy holiday season and see you on the flipside in 2018!
