Ratings Roundup for the Week of March 2, 2025

CBS brought the curtain down on three veteran series' last week. FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted were both cancelled. The network also cancelled SWAT for a third time. Chances are the network means it this time. The reason for the cancellations may be tied to the fact that none of the shows were produced by the network, making them more expensive. There is also a rumor that there will be a new series in the FBI franchise, tentatively titled FBI: CIA next season. The Amazing Race premiered its latest season last week, down from where it was last year. Watson lost another six hundred thousand viewers it couldn't afford. The Equaliser was also down, losing six hundred thousand viewers. The odds of either show returning next season are fading. Poppa's House was down three hundred thousand viewers while The Neighborhood was down one hundred thousand viewers but was still renewed for an eighth and final season.

ABC saw nice numbers for the Oscars last week. The annual awards show was up from last year's red carpet gala. Shifting Gears picked up three hundred thousand viewers. While its ratings have been on a bit of a yo-yo the last few weeks, it will likely be renewed. Doctor Odyssey and Grey's Anatomy returned after an extended break. Doctor Odyssey was down about ten thousand viewers, while Grey's was even.

NBC saw another week of low numbers for its freshman dramas. The Hunting Party was down four hundred thousand viewers. Suits: LA lost a million viewers off its premiere. The chances of either show being renewed are slim. Grosse Point Garden Society lost seven hundred thousand viewers off its premiere and is likely done. Unless its numbers improve, it may be yanked off the network schedule and left to burn off its remaining episodes on Peacock

FOX saw another low week for its Sunday animated shows. Family Guy lost three hundred thousand viewers. Grimsburg was down about one hundred thousand viewers. The Great North was even. Universal Basic Guys and Krapopolis were renewed ahead of the start of the fall season. In the case of Krapopolis, that's a decision the network may be regretting now. Family Guy will likely be renewed along with The Simpsons. The fate of Grimsburg and The Great North is less certain. Animal Control and Going Dutch are also likely done after this season. Rescue HI-Surf could squeak a renewal depending on what schedule space the network has for next season.

I doubt NBC would want them, they ar trying to diversify from being the "Dick Wolf Network". If fans want to try a save our show campaign, they might have better luck trying to get the shows moved to Paramount+. I read somewhere that Shemar Moore is trying to get Netflix to take SWAT, not sure that will work either.

We are in the midst of a major shift in how television is produced. Now a "full season" is 18 episodes instead of 22, for network shows. Streamers are lucky to get ten episodes per season on a sporadic shooting schedule. So if another network or streamer wanted to take on one or both shows, they would likely be stripped down versions to save money.

Certainly cost more than ratings. Ratings for both shows were okay, not amazing, but okay. One is produced by Universal and the other by Sony (I can't keep straight which is which) so that's the big cost. A show made in-house will always get more consideration than one that's not, which is likely why NCIS Origins was renewed, even with its lower ratings numbers, while these two weren't.

When I heard about the FBIs being canceled I was more bummed about International over Most Wanted. I figured it had to do with costs.
