Eventually, John moved to California, where he landed his first television role in an episode of "Police Story." He went on to star in "240-Roberts" and hosted the syndicated show "Every Day," for which he received an Emmy nomination. He made guest appearances in several series, including "The Duck Factory," "Emerald Point, NAS," "Teachers Only," "Boone," "Little House on the Prairie," "Soap," "Mannix," and "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," among many others.
