New show status: "Renewed"

LouisWu wrote 9 years ago: 1

Right now, after a show is renewed, the status goes from “To Be Determined” to “Running”. There is no indication for a show that is “out of season”, so to speak.
As long as the air date for the next season opener is unknown, it would make more sense to me that the status indicated that production is ongoing, but not active. If nothing else, it would follow more closely how sites like The Futon Critic describe active show statuses.

I'd agree with that. The trick would be either only allowing TC and above to set it or hammer home to users not to set the status to "renewed" until after the last episode of the current season/series has aired.

Hi Louis,

It has been discussed by several other members to add more show statuses, however we decided not to go for it for a number of reasons, which could be found in previous topics.

Cheers,

I just tag my shows as renewed or finished season or currently airing and so forth

Dragen wrote 9 years ago: 1

"Running" doesn't really say anything other than it's currently airing. A running show can still be cancelled or renewed.

Just a thought. As user contribution is needed and people enjoy helping, maybe a Show "News" on show header section

that users can edit. Status type news.. "show" renewed for 4th season etc ."on the bubble etc.. picked up by.. and so on

opinions are free..

Thanks Tim, but I would prefer a solution that benefits everyone, not just you and me :)

That would certainly be a neat addition; it would definitely get my vote.

I'm not going into an argument about what should be added or not, but Blindspot which has a status of to be determined while it's been renewed seems wrong to me.

http://www.tvmaze.com/shows/1855/blindspot

So hiatus or renewed would be a nice addition, i understand the logic behind not adding 10s of different statuses but the choice is too limited i believe. Anyway, someone should decide what status blindspot should be "to be determined" shouldn't be one of them.

LadyShelley wrote 9 years ago: 1

If it's aired a season one and been renewed, I would think the status should be "running", even though it isn't running right now.

Gadfly wrote 9 years ago: 1

I thought if any show was renewed, even if it's between seasons, it was to be listed as Running. The TBD status seems to be in error.

JuanArango wrote 9 years ago: 1

Running is of course the correct status, I fixed it :)

Cecile wrote 9 years ago: 1

I also think there should be a difference between running like "it's the current season and we don't know for the futur", and running like "there will be more after this season".

So 'Renewed' seems to be a correct therm for it.

I've been using a separate application that allows me to setup catagories that I can filter a show into. For example, I have a category called "Current" that has all of the shows that I'm currently watching. That could include shows that are "current" but could also include shows that I'm playing catchup on from prior years. I have a catchall called Cancelled/Ended. It's gone bye-bye.

I only move a Current show into the Cancelled/Ended category once I've finished watching any episodes that remain.

The last category I call "Waiting for Next Season". This is for any show that is "on the bubble", "waiting for renewal", "on hiatus", "renewed", has an extended delay (i.e., like Sherlock where the show only shows up every couple of years), or I am really just waiting for the next season to start or to hear that the show has been ended or cancelled. These shows will go into either the Current bucket or the Cancelled/Ended bucket at some point. Until then, this is the catchall for everyting in-betwen.

How a TV exec defines the status is different than a viewer (or at least me) defines the status. I'd love to know know when a show I'm watching has been cancelled or ended or renewed but those answers can come at varous times before or after a season has ended. Also, depending on which website you go to for that information you might get misleading information.

Current and Ended are pretty well defined states that a show can be in. Everything else is just in-between one of those two states.

BTW: I love the design of TVMaze and that they are working on incorporating user suggestions.
