My thoughts exactly. Maybe on people as well.

I don't agree at all. Why would we want to link to another site that could be providing the same information?

I an with Tom here, linking to a competitor site is not making that much sense to me :)

MTQueenie wrote 9 years ago: 1

I third that. As the others say why would we link to a competing site

LadyShelley wrote 9 years ago: 1

The whole point of TV Maze is we aren't IMDb, why would we want to link to it?

Aidan wrote 9 years ago: 1

Directing people to another site just sounds like a bad idea altogether..

deleted wrote 9 years ago: 1

Redirecting to a site which is suppose to be a competitor to us is definitely a bad idea from my point of view and often their information regarding series is unreliable.

dpratt wrote 9 years ago: 1

I'm surprised to see all the negative responses. IMDB is a great resource for series/actor info. I don't see why it matters that it's a different site. They offer a totally different experience. I don't see them as a competitor.

iMDb are generally utter shit when it comes to accuracy on tv shows

And that's why TVMaze is such an important resource, and why IMDB will never truly be able to compete. However IMDB is still a good resource. Did you know that nearly every Wikipedia article for any actor, movie, or TV series links to its respective IMDB article?

That's kind of the problem. Everyone is linking to them without regard to the quality of the information provided. Part of the point of Maze is to have more accurate information than what you find on IMDb or Wikipedia; they aren't primary resources for information but rehashes of other questionable sources.

Part of the idea here is that fans of shows are *watching* the episodes and adding information from that experience so this site has more accurate information and better sourced.

Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

I don't think we'll be adding any additional links next to the show's official website.

I didn't say that IMDB was always accurate. Like anything it can also be terribly biased and inaccurate sometimes. But it's still a great resource.

TVMaze is an amazing resource also for the reasons you said. But I don't see it being in competition with IMDB. IMDB is just another source of information.

It would make more sense for IMDB to link to a more reliable and extensive source like tvmaze.
For the sake of accuracy and credibility: If more links should be added to pages, then only of the original sources and not third party sites.

IMDB is an original source though. Not just third party like Wikipedia or something.

Wrong. IMDB is a user generated site just like wikipedia or tvmaze.

Since this request is rejected, alternative is that you create a userscript yourself.

Majority of shows have imdb link stored in API so you could easily write an userscript that would query API and inject link to place of your liking.

Let me explain the difference to you. Wikipedia does not allow original content. If you want to post something there it has to have a third party reference. Yes it's user-generated but they don't allow you to post content that doesn't have a 3rd party reference. HOWEVER IMDB is useful because producers, actors, etc can contribute content directly to the site. And they don't need to provide a third party reference like Wikipedia does. The producer of a new show cannot directly edit Wikipedia and add new information about the show without a press release that shows the said information first. IMDB does not have that restriction which is what makes it an original source, unlike Wikipedia.
