Example, on episode 2x1 on Mr. Robot there's 3 members of the main cast that don't appear in he episode.but are still credited in the intro.
On IMDB you can mark them as "credit only"

This is not a bad idea, but it would require alot of work to add all those to all our shows :)
Note that in such a case there should not be a Cast Appearance for that actor/episode.
Yeah, that's the main reason i want it, really
Helps getting the actual top billed actors to the top of the list
we Know david, we are suggesting to have a credit only box :)
I am definitely not in favour for such an option. It does add little to no value from my point of view and has the tendency to be misused by users. What's the point of giving him credits for an episode he wasn't appearing in?

I agree with Thomas, i'd suggest that you could easily note something like this on a character page rather then it counting towards getting a cast member to the top of the list.
I'm with Thomas, I really dislike the "credit only" at IMDb, if I'm trying sort out which episodes an actor was actually in, that does nothing to help me. I think the way Maze handles that is cleaner, if they don't appear, they aren't listed. The actor is still credited as being in the cast on the main show page.
Well, if you go to an actor's page at IMDB, you can tell which episodes they were credited for but appeared in, and which episodes they did appear in. So it does help sort out which episodes the actor was actually in if you look at their person page. At the show level, not so much.
Then again, I'd rather have the show cast on the main page of any given episode rather than buried under the Cast Appearance link. Like with tonight's Zoo. it tells me on the main episode page who played "Goon #1." But I have to dig to find out if Billy Burke was in the episode or not.
I don't think it's a big thing to have. But unless you make it very specific ("credit only" only), it will probably get abused. I've seen sites that use it to list "and" and "with". Which seems unnecessary.

I've never figured out how Maze sorts the actor credits at the show level! :) Every time I refresh a page it changes. I do like your idea of the regular cast listed on the episode page; maybe have both, the main cast and the guest cast in sections?

From my experience, the actors who have the most appearances come first. When there is a tie, like you said it is random.
The main reason, IMO, that you want to list "Credit only" is that in many cases, if you just watch the first few minutes of an episode, you don't know if the actor credited in it actually appears in the episode or not.
For instance, Once Upon a Time lists every main star whether they're in the episode or not. So if I want to know if Sean Magurie is in an episode, I have to watch the whole episode to see if he's in it. Just looking at the opening credits won't tell me. If I look at the cast list here and his name isn't listed, I don't know if either a) he's not in the episode, or b) someone forgot to add him. If you add him on the show star list but it's noted "credit only", then you know his presence or absence is being acknowledged.
With some American shows, they only credit the show stars who appear. Supernatural, for instance, only lists Misha Collins and Mark Sheppard if they appear in the episode. If they're not listed at the beginning, you know they're not in the episode. Other shows, like Arrow and American Horror Story, list everyone whether they appear or not. it's the latter you may need "credit only" for.
Without having looked too closely at it I'd imagine a lot of the shows with an a large cast, like Grey's Anatomy, this would happen frequently.
Low budget sci-fi and their bottle eps also come to mind.
Personally I'm against this idea. I don't really see the point of adding people to an episode that they don't even appear in as they are already listed under main cast for the show.

You kinda have to add them as they are credited on the episode. I'd just like a option to be more detailed and note that they weren't actually in it.

No you don't. As David also pointed out earlier in this thread if someone isn't actually in the episode you don't list them in the episode, credit or not.

Does the system make it clear why they are and aren't listed for any given episode?
For Instance, if I look at Michael Socha, do I know why he isn't listed for any season 5 episodes of Once Upon a Time even though he's a show star? Do I know why he isn't listed for episodes 17, 19, 21, and 22 of season 4? Did he not appear in those episodes... or did someone forget to add him?
You can't cover every contingency, but with Credit Only, at least you can cover one of the main ones.

This is also something that could be dealt with by having a "Show Notes" section. Notes such as "Gillian Anderson absent from this episode due to the birth of her daughter." "This is the 100th episode for the series." The way to keep the noting to the essentials would be to have TC and above the only ones with access to add the info, that way it doesn't turn into the mess that exists at IMDb.
Presumably character/season guides clarify a lot of this. But they're not very visible.
