You are very correc that each year should be a season, so you can go right ahead and make the relevant changes if you so wish.
The difficult bit is what year should we list it by? YouTube certainly didn't exist when the competition first started :)
By the year of the contest i think. We already had some annual shows which comes way back, even before internet existed. Rose Parade for example. Or Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame Inductions.
