The cast seems to appear in random order, and there is no way to change it. I suggest being able to arrange the order of the primary cast names so that they can appear in order of how they are credited in the show.

On the cast page, the guest stars are ordered by Guest Stars, Co-Stars, Special Guest Stars, and uncredited. On the main page (and within the categories on the guest cast page) they appear in order of total appearances on the show. If they have the same #, then it's apparently random.
Since the basis for how they appear on-screen can vary from show to show, it's not clear that putting them in order of appearance is any more useful than any other reason. Sometimes a "big" recurring guest star gets a "with" or "and" appearance after all the others. Sometimes they appear alphabetically. Sometimes they just appear in order of... whatever the producers think is their significance in the episode.
I meant the order they are credited, usually at the beginning of the show. Usually this is consistent unless new cast members are introduced.

But this is only the case for US shows. Most UK shows list their cast in order of Appearance. Dutch shows for example just randomly add them in the end credits. There's no real system, so having it count on appearances is the most plausible idea from my perspective.
I'm just saying we should be able to order the cast names how we like instead of just having them order randomly or alphabetically.

it sounds like you're talking show stars. You'd have to ask David how they're ordered. Although ordering them "how we like" probably isn't any better (or worse!) than how David likes to program it to display. In that case, I'd list them in order of appearance in the credits... which I think is what you mean. :)
I suspect the problem is that if you could change the order, some contributors would then list the show stars how they like. For instance, Jessica Lange was the "big" star on American Horror Story in seasons 2-4, but they listed her last. I could see a contributor deciding that she's so important she should be listed first. But at least on US TV, being listed last is considered a mark of importance, bigger salary, and so on. At least if the system determines how she's listed, no one can fiddle with it.
Yes. I was responding to Thomas who made a point about different countries ordering cast differently than America. I think he meant that they are ordered differently from episode to episode. So I'm not sure how they would decide to order them on TVmaze. But for most American shows yes in the credits which are pretty consistent.
Indeed, cast is ordered by the amount of appearances from the character during the show's run. (You can see the amount of appearances that it's based on on a show's character page).
I think this is optimal and much preferred over any other way. :)
However in many shows cast members appear equally to the other cast members.
