The Real Housewives - Potential BUG?

JAGUARDOG wrote 9 years ago: 1

I went looking to see how many different versions of the show "The Real Housewives" there were but the search function only brought up a total of 10 and there are way more than that. So it is either limited to 10 per page and there should be more pages but nowhere on the screen was a selection to look at Page 2 or more or whatever? Or this is a BUG and is not bringing them all up for some reason? - http://www.tvmaze.com/search?q=The+Real+Housewives+

It brought these up in this order:

The Real Housewives of Cheshire

The Real Housewives of Atlanta

The Real Housewives of Melbourne

The Real Housewives of Potomac

The Real Housewives of Sydney

The Real Housewives of Miami

The Real Housewives of Auckland

Real Housewives of Toronto

The Real Housewives of Dallas

The Real Housewives of Vancouver

This brings up the following questions in my mind:

1. Why only 10?

2. Why does it bring them up in this order, not alphabetically or some kind of order?

3. Shouldn't Real Housewives of Toronto have a "The" in front of it so it matches all the others?

Some of the ones missing that I am aware of are

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

The Real Housewives of D.C.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey

The Real Housewives of New York

The Real Housewives of Orange County

and

Real Housewives of New Jersey: Teresa Checks In

The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kandi's Wedding

There may be more but those are all the ones I can think of?

1. Yes, the search is limited to 10, why you have to ask david or jan :)

2. david and jan need to answer this.

3. If the "THE" is in the original title, it should be in.

If you search for the complete title it will show up the ones that are missing, so they are not really missing :)

For #2, the order will be the score a.k.a the relevance of the result.

Thank you very much Juan I will ask them. gazza I have no idea what you are saying what is a score and what does aka have to do with anything?

David or Jan if you choose to respond?

1. Why is the search function limited to only 10 responses?

2. When there is more than 10 like in this case why is there not either a "More" or "Next Page" or "Page 2" selection?

3. Why did they not come up in alpha order?

4. Why did the system choose those particular 10 shows when others would fall in on the list high?

There just seems to be no rhyme or reason for the kind of response it provided?

All I meant was that the order is how relevant the show name is compared to what you actually searched for (it's also slightly affected by the popularity of the shows).

If you want a quick answer to #3 : That's the standard for any type of search when you're matching it against something.

And for #4 : It deemed those 10 to be the most relevant; it's not a simple task to ensure that it's exactly how you'd expect.

P.S For that particular search, the difference in the relevance for each show is negligible (from a technical standpoint) - a few even have the exact same relevance as each other.

@david, If you decide to use pages I'd definitely suggest using elasticsearch's min_score

Thanks for trying to respond to me however you speak in terms that I do not understand hardly anything you are saying.

If you want a quick answer to #3 : That's the standard for any type of search when you're matching it against something. - As far as your response to that you may or may not be accurate but it maybe the answer is most NOT the standard. TVrage's search function not only brought up responses in alpha order but their pages displayed 25 at a time and showed you the number of total responses you could see if you wanted to and gave you the opportunity to select SEE ALL!

Gazza here is why I have no clue what you are saying,

Not to be Rude or disrespectful to you or anyone let me try and explain in detail why I am clueless to your speak. I am 65 years old and my comprehension skills are pretty much 0 these days and have been for a few years now. No one has been able to teach this “Old DOG New Tricks” in many years especially when it comes to computers, the Internet or the language of the Internet which I call “Computer speak or jargon”. I hear words like you just mentioned all the time but have no clue what they are or what they mean or can do or how to use them and I basically just don’t have the patience anymore to try to learn?

Ask Gadfly, he has tried many, many times over the past 5 or so years to teach me step by step how to use Photoshop and I just don’t get it and I’m sure I never will. Tom S. had tries a few times in years past to teach me a few things which most people I’m told are easy things to learn but they don’t know me and how little I know or understand? It’s like banging my head against a brick wall so to speak it hurts like Heck!

I have a cellphone for calls only but I have never learned how to send or receive messages or how to access the Internet and frankly after having one for about 6 years I guess I don't have a good enough reason to need to do either one?

It's in the same way how you wouldn't expect google search results to be alphabetical

TVMaze probably could (with some time spent on it) do it alphabetically but you've got no guarantee that you'll see shows that closely resemble what you searched for.

Ideally you'd have the option of sorting by relevance or alphabetically so that each person could choose.

As for not returning all (or at the least more) shows, I can't answer that question.

Obba Babatunde needs to be removed as a "starring" role on The Bold and the Beautiful, he has only appeared in a guest starring capacity.

Jcar - wrong Forum can you move your request to the correct Forum which is "Data" and then "Edit Requests" please? I know this was an accident no problem.

I can't move the post but this is fixed. :)

Indeed the search is limited to 10 results. 99% of the time that's sufficient and you should just narrow your search query if there's so much results. But I suppose it would be nice to have all possible matches returned for a query like "The Real Housewives". I'll think about increasing the amount a bit or adding pagination.

The search results are ordered by popularity: the more visits & followers a show has, the higher up in the list.
