The Farthest

Not sure if this show qualifies ... so thought I would ask 1st.

"The Farthest" is a 2 hour Irish documentary film that details NASA's Voyager mission. It's been shown in Ireland & various film festivals in AU, NZ and elsewhere.

With regards to TV, "The Farthest" will be broadcast in AU on the ABC in 2 parts on the 8/Aug & 15/Aug @9:30pm. It will be broadcast in the US on the PBS network on the 23/Aug. As far as I can tell the ABC gets the world TV premier!!!

Anyway, just wondering if it qualifies to be added?

Cheers

If it premieres as a 2-part documentary on TV it qualifies :)

Wouldn't the determining factor be how it premiered in Ireland? It sounds like it was a 2 hour program shown all at once.

Wouldn't the festival screenings make it theatrical and not allowed here.

JuanArango wrote 8 years ago: 1

Hmm, tough question, I always thought if it premieres on TV as two parts it is allowed, but you made me doubt that now :)

It's not only the festivals. It's a pure 120 min. theatrical release, which premiered in Irish cinemas on July, 28 and set for US theatrical release on August, 11.

The fact, that some network decided to split it in two halves and air it during 2 nights doesn't make it a TV series :)

Then I agree of course, it does not qualify then!

After watching the 2 "episodes" I would disagree that the show has simply been cut into 2 halves.

IMHO, what was broadcast by the ABC was the TV release of "The Farthest".

Anyway, the decision has been made ...

To 1 & all ... If you like doco's and/or space stuff then I would highly recommend that you go & watch "The Farthest" when you can. I watch a lot of documentaries and "The Farthest" is clearly the best doco I've seen this year.

It will be aired at 9pm August 23 on PBS as a single 120' movie http://mountainlake.org/tv-schedule/#page=schedule&day=20170823&provider=Broadcast

But I can see, that ABC AU have it as two separate episodes:
