Tools :: Tvdb bulk episodes

SilverSurfer wrote 7 years ago: 1

I'd like to import episodes from thetvdb.com that are incomplete, just lacking an airdate.

Just looking for ways to help speed up the creation process and having to manually redo something that is so tantalizingly just sitting there waiting to be utilized is ... odd.

Additionally, if it is permitted by thetvdb.com policy, I think we should also be able to import the episode description.

I'm of course assuming anyone would take the same care importing dateless episodes as they do importing ones with dates while also making sure descriptions are accurate.

As always, thanks for reading.

importing the tvdb summaries is not a good idea, as we do not know if those are official ones and if they are self written by members of tvdb, it would not be ok to import them :)

OK, struck that part out but left the most important part ... importing episodes that just need a date.

To be honest, I'd be happy if it even listed episodes with no airdate but required you to enter it.

(Much quicker to add airdates there than through the normal episode creation)

For the reason Juan has already said, I doubt we'd allow importing summaries.

The importer is right now built that it is not possible to import episodes without airdate, so that we do not get policy violations, adding episodes without a proper name and an airdate :)

But policy allows an episode to be added with just a title and number, no date. It doesn't seem to make a difference, IMHO, whether I create such an episode myself or import it, so, I'd like to see the importer adjusted to allow the importation of dateless episodes. This can speed up work here greatly in some situations.

BTW, any idea how long an update @ thetvdb.com takes to be available to the importer here? I assumed it would be almost immediate but apparently not. I registered there and added the missing dates to 7 episodes I want to import but it's still not showing up and it's been over an hour.

I think this updates once a day, but david knows this better :)

IDK the exact timeframe, but from experience it usually takes 3 hours top for the new information to be available through the API calls.

It's been about 12 hours and still nothing to import. The show in question is Martha Bakes, season 10, episodes 7-13. Will keep trying every once in awhile and post here if/when it finally shows up.

are you sure that the tvdb ID is the correct one and that the show has episode titles and airdates?

Just tried again and they were available and have now been imported.

But I don't want this particular example obscure the suggestion. I'd still like to be able to import the shows and add the dates here rather than having to go there, add the dates, and try to remember to come back and import them ~24hrs later. I'm still a bit confused why we can not import episodes that meet TVmaze policy for addition to the site. Hopefully this can be accepted and a quick tweak to the import code. :)
