Netflix: Season ordering

JuanArango wrote 6 years ago: 1

Hey guys,

recently there have been discussions about how to handle the Netflix seasons on some shows. Netflix often calls it part 1 and part 2.

Shall we enter those two parts as ONE season or as TWO seasons?

My opinion is to only enter it as TWO seasons if Netflix names it that way on their official page. Otherwise we should go for ONE season.

thx for your input :)

I'd stick to press releases only. At the show's page they always being called "seasons". E.g. The Ranch page says "Watch Season 7 Now", despite that (per numerous press releases), each season consist of two parts, and it is the first part of season 4 running now. Disenchantment's page says "Watch Season 2 Now", however there's a press release calling it "New episodes of season one".

As I suggested in other thread, we could consider each part as a season, unless there's a clear statement from Netflix (in press release or other kind of official announcement) that those parts belong to a single season.

I agree with this statement, seems to be the logical decision.

It would be nice if all our "decisions" were collected somewhere easy to reach, not buried in the forums. It is pointless to discuss something which would be buried in forums in month or two... Needless to say that some of those decisions (explanations, whatever) actually should've been added to policy, to make it more up-to-date, detailed and easier to use.

I agree completely. Which shows would we need to change if we go along with what you suggested?

I agree, seems like the most logical way of doing it.

Can't think of something right now, the shows I know of are already listed this way... I think :)

FWIW, it says "Watch Part 2" now for me on Disenchantment's page, and "new episodes" on the show's image when searching/browsing. But I agree, if they split it into parts it should be split into seasons here unless they've said it's one season.

If only Netflix would get their act together lol

In my former life as grand high poobah within an unnamed ministry of an unnamed country we had a hierarchy ...

Legislation,

Regulation,

Policy,

Precedent.

The first three were always written down and organized in a logical (LOL) manner but precedents (basically what you're doing here) were more haphazard until some bright soul thought they too should be written down, indexed, organized and made available to one and all so that folk did not continually reinvent the wheel. The indexing was important of course so that you could find what you were looking for, if it existed, as quickly as possible whether it be by (in this case) Network, Show, or Situation (Season numbering) ... Tags would work wonderfully here I think. The individual precedent noted the issue, the relevant sections of the 3 upper hierarchies (obviously the first two do not apply here), why this was different and needed a decision and finally the decision and reasoning. Sometimes it was important enough to amend policy, the regs or even the law. Sometimes TPTB did not like the precedent decision and hurled a lightning bolt from on high to reverse the precedent ... these lightning bolts were seldom accompanied by reasoning other than "because we said so" ... TPTB can be snippy at times.

I offer this as a suggestion because of my deep seated belief that the best way to organize something is with a government bureaucracy imposed system of classifications. :)
