I liked Dudgeon from moment one, solar. Him early on as the criminal with the Nettles MM was a hoot.

Yes  dee  ...    I see that  Ep. from  time to time  and always smile to myself  ...   thinking  ,   ' If you only  knew  what was in your  future ' .

Deedee, so good to hear from you!!  Yea, David Leon came back to see the series out (at Brenda's request) after Kenny Doughty's departure and it is fitting to see the series go full circle. I have the feeling that DL signed on for the last two seasons with the full knowledge that it would be the end of the era - there would be no spin offs or continuance of the series. He and Brenda must have a close relationship for him to be willing to step back in to a role that he had moved on from.

Solar, I found the first episode of"Guilt" kind of dark and depressing with no comedic interludes to lower that tone, which is what this show is known for.  I wasn't expecting that. At the end of last season the guys escaped to the US and we had uplifting thoughts that things would improve for them and what do we find - things have actually gotten worse. There is little room for them to fall further, they have hit rock bottom - they are still breathing so they've got that!

I will be watching "Maryland" - seems intriguing. We'll see.

I am enjoying watching the corrupt Post Office executives get taken down by the little guy. I read somewhere just lately that this docudrama has had a bigger impact- 10 years later- than the news outlets when they first broke the story! It's almost impossible to believe that over 700 people were coerced into believing that they were 'the only one' to have problems!!

Sunday wraps up that story, and then I too have Maryland set up on my PVR. It wasn't long ago that I watched the 2nd season of Vigil which was another that Suranne Jones stars in. This one sounds more like fixing family angst than solving a mystery, but I'm hoping it turns into a good story!

It's funny you should mention Midsomer Murders, my Seattle PBS station has recently started from the beginning - with DCI Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Troy  LOL

Well, here we go again, Sheerwater another new personality to become acquainted with! For me, it always starts out a bit rocky - it takes time to embrace someone new in the role as Inspector.

He was in the last season of Shetland so I've seen him in a series recently.

It is going to be interesting to see what his backstory is going to be as that always shapes the character and his response to living in St. Marie.

Appara, I have a feeling that it is going to be a good one. At least I hope so (too). Not the "mystery, mystery" type story that we gravitate to, but a drama - angst as you say - built around a family mystery.

My local PBS restarted the "Midsomer" series from the beginning a month or so ago and I have been catching a few moments here and there of Tom and Troy when I pass by.  I sometimes stop to watch the end of the story if I come along the second part of an episode. ( I have seen the early ones so many times I'm not interested in watching the entire episode, but I can't help myself from watching when I know that the big reveal of the murder is right around the corner.)

Thanks for the info.   sheerwater   ...   I am watching  The Jill Dando Story  ( Netflix )  and I can't believe  it's been  25  years  last month   since it happened .  Don't think it will ever be solved .

Yes  appara  ...  the  Bates / P.O.  group should  be  called  ' The Only One Club '  just to throw it back at them .  Fun  ta watch this  little group grow  each time they held a meeting  in that little town hall .   Bates , such an unassuming  little guy who would just not give up no matter how long it  took.   Good  show  all around .

I had to search for info on the 'new guy' Don Gilet, and found that has had a long career, but not in any role/shows that stand out for me. From the photo that accompanied the article he's going to add a bit of eye candy to Paradise!  I too am curious about Detective Inspector Mervin WiIson's back story, and how he comes to be on the island. I wonder how long it's going to take before it airs out here.

deedee713 wrote a year ago: 1

The Independent states that he will be introduced in the Christmas special, and start in 2025.

Gilet looks very familiar, but I never watched EastEnders, and don't remember him from Shetland.

Luckily, we are adaptable to new faces. Well, mostly!

Deedee, it is not your memory... you didn't see it - he was in the last season of "Shetland" sans Douglas Henshall.

Been watchin'  a  series called  ' The Stranger '  ( Netflix )  and  can't think if it has ever been mentioned  on this board before.  One of the  main characters is played by  Siobhan Finneran  ( pronounced  Shavawn )  from  Downton  Abbey  fame .  She played  the evil , scheming  O' Brien ,  one of my favorite characters of that show.  In this series she plays  a life weary cop  whose  recently  separated and  looking forward to her retirement  but still working  homicide cases with her partner .  Series runs parallel  stories  and they keep switching between them  so it gives an overall good flow  .. so much so when one Ep. ends ya wanna watch  the next  one.  lol   If ya come across it, worth a watch .  It's a goodun .

BritMystery wrote a year ago: 1

I watched that, Solar. I thought Siobhan Finneran was very good as the detective. She also played a detective in "The Loch" (streaming on Acorn TV). Both left me thinking she would do well as a lead detective in her own series, something like "Vera" - I think the genre fits her well.

The on going  adventures of the McCall  brothers ,  Max and Jake .  I some how got a feeling Max's  fortunes  may just start turning around in the next  Ep.  It comes from that last scene in the Ep. just finished .  When there  in the car and come across  Teddy on that country lane .  Think Teddy is working for that evil  drug queen Maggie  Lynch and  Max appears to be offering Teddy a deal  to take all the  drugs for themselves .  This might be far fetched  but next Ep. will explain it more.  Max and  his father haven't gotten along in years .  Must be family drama night  . The two sisters in  Maryland  seem to have a lot of issues between them as well.

I think you are right, Solar. I got the same feeling. After Max had that talk with his Dad - go get what you had back (he said), if having the life you had makes you feel better about life and yourself, then go get it back. You could see the light bulb go off in Max's head - and then his brother went on to reinforce this by basically saying the same thing to him.

With this percolating in the back of his mind when he saw Teddy on that road he knew why he was there, yet Max took the chance before him (knowing how Teddy feels about him) and went for it. Let's flip the table a la Theresa in the Housewives of NJ, and take it all for ourselves.

Now, "taking it all" from a drug/crime cartel has its' moral issues... if you get to the point where you don't care where the money comes from I don't really feel you will have any redemption, but let's see how this all plays out.

Haven't got to "Maryland" - planning to get caught up tonight.

I read an article the other day about the "Bergerac" reboot and from the comments I read regarding this coming to be, I seem to be the only person on the planet that was looking forward to it. Mainly because I want to visit the Channel Islands specifically because of the series and I felt that this would bring more attention to the old series as well as the new. I am having second thoughts... they may really make a mess of this as everyone seems to feel they will. And, Nettles is quite miffed (as I am) that they have not offered him a role or even a cameo. They have not approached him at all.

Someone mentioned that he probably thought they would give him a small role as they did with Robin Ellis in the reboot of "Poldark", but so far they have not been as generous. This alone makes me suspect of where they are going with this reimagined/ updated version. I am now on the fence about it all.

Yeah  Brit  ...   don' t  know if Max  was involved in the drug trade before  that funny accident  that opened  the series  but you raise a good point about the  ' moral issues '  of making such a come back.  If he succeeds  , the shine will be off him for sure.

Nettles not offered a guest slot  on the Bergerac reboot  ...  well , that is news .  Miffed as well .  Won't feel so bad if  this  reboot is a flop.   Won't say anything  about   Maryland  until  ya post something ,   don't want ta get ahead of ya.  lol

Solar, if you remember John Nettles also had a role in "Poldark". Given how he saw Robin Ellis treated it is quite understandable that he would anticipate an invite - in even a small way - to the reboot of "Bergerac". I am becoming suspect of the team that is driving this - one of the nicest things about UK productions is that they utilize actors from across the board in age and experience. There is no such thing as age discrimination... just look back through the years of "Midsomer" to see that - prime talent in their eighties and nineties regularly had guest roles - the roster of guest stars is a whose who of English actors.

We were just talking about how the Poldark production team worked with Warren Clarke while he was quite ill and truly at the end of his life to help him finish the filming of his role because it meant so much to him. Also, add to the list Peter Bowles, who in his eighties had a distinguished role in the "Victoria" series.

I am seriously questioning what kind of approach they are taking with the new Bergerac series if they can't (or won't) find a role for JN.

BTW, Terence Alexander was in his seventies when he played Charlie Hungerford - a major character of the original series. John could certainly play that role in the reboot as I would imagine that Charlie won't have quite the same screen time in the new version (as it seems they are going to lean in to the younger characters).

I really liked "Maryland"! Such an interesting story... looking forward to seeing the characters develop - there is a lot going on there with both sisters individually, as well as, as siblings. The whole thing about the mother... her life apart from their family; the pricey house at the beach given to her by her own biological mother - it is all kind of fascinating.

So Brit, there was Tchécky Karyo in Kiss of the Dragon on no idea what channel. I didn't linger, but had to until I figured out who he was and only got it from his voice!

I haven't been able to watch Suranne Jones since Scott & Bailey, think I could tolerate her? Maryland sounds good.

Quite enjoying Guilt season 3, I didn't stick around for the second series.

Deedee, looked it up - that was twenty-three years ago! I would not have recognized him either, but that voice... so distinctive, you hear it and you just know. He became much more handsome as he got older - age looks good on him.

Try "Maryland", she will probably still get to you but not enough to turn it off - the premise of the story is interesting and you are going to love where the Mom lived (her second home). While I was watching I was thinking "Deedee would love this" (the seaside neighborhood). We both have an affinity for houses by the water. Give it a go.

The one thing that I dislike about "Guilt" - I have said this before - Teddy scares the bejesus out of me, so much so, I FF through his parts when he comes on screen first to see the end result of what he does quickly - and then go back and watch at normal speed if I deem it safe to watch. The actor, Greg McHugh, is a little too convincing in the part. 😳

I started a new series last night on Britbox, "In the Dark" - only one episode in, but looks promising. Only four episodes, so it will move along quickly.

LOL Yeah  Brit  ....   Teddy  struck me as  being  a few bricks short of a load.  Just something a little off about ' m .  On second thoughts  about that encounter  in the lane ..  was Teddy  there to do harm  to  Max and Jake  and Max sensed this  and came up with this  collaboration story off the top of his head to get the upper hand ... and  can either one of them be trusted .  We  ...  shall  ... see .

See  two  story lines in Maryland ..   1.  that whole business around  mom.   2.  the two sisters  , who were not close  ,  finding common  ground  and reattaching  after all those years apart .  Don't want to get into specifics  until dee has seen it.  Got a history lesson for ya Brit at the end of  Guilt

deedee713 wrote a year ago: 1

Funny me, I quite like Teddy! I think because the actor is new to me, and I'm impressed with his acting.

Thank you for Maryland, what a difference 13 (!) years makes - Suranne has matured, I've, well, gotten older. You're right of course, Brit, I now want to move to the Isle of Man.
