Thanks for the birthday wishes, Deedee! I had a lovely day.

Really interested to see where Di Ray's story goes in the next episode tonight.

Tonite is another installment of Ray - she does kinda remind me of when I was yelling at Vera for heading into what could be a dangerous situation all on her own?  LOL

I've also picked up a series called the Madame Blanc Mysteries which is airing on Fridays. It looks to be only one season of 8 episodes which originally aired in 2021.

Appara, I watched the first season of "Madame Blanc" and I really enjoyed it as I am a Sally Lindsay fan (she plays Jean). This series is her baby and she was trying to go do something which was reminiscent of the late '80's/early '90's  "Lovejoy" series with Ian McShane - another fav of mine.

Solar, Sally Lindsey is Kath in "Still Open all Hours". Sue Holderness, "Mrs Rossi" is also in it. I will say her character and her husband (in Madame Blanc) were a bit (okay, more than a bit) over the top and became an irritant as time went on. Such a shame as she was so lovely as Mrs. Rossi.

P. S. - Appara, there are three seasons in the series, I have only seen the first so far.

Hey Guys! It was a very stressful week with a very sick cat, my girl is twelve and the heart of our home (along with her sister) so I was pretty much a mess, but keeping up a strong front to keep her going. We had blood tests done and thank God, there is nothing major that they found, but she was still very sick and not eating. I had to give her a shot of motion sickness meds to get her to the vet and the result of that was she was able to keep a small bit of food down for a few days.

Finally, the light went off, I think she has IBS which means we have to feed her differently from now so we can get past this and keep it from happening in the future. The Hubs and I have managed to get food down her yesterday, and so far today, and we are nothing short of thrilled. One of the worst feelings in life is when one of your pet children is unwell.

Anyway, I finally got caught up with "Di Ray" last night. I had it DVR'd and I think it got cut off at the end 'cause for some reason it started recording mid "Grantchester". I had to go read a synopsis on-line to see what I missed. I thought it was a pretty good episode (what I saw of it), but the bulk of it was the higher-ups going after her in every way they possibly could find. We did get some answers to important questions - so that was good, things did move forward.

Solar, before I completely forget... I read an article a few weeks ago where John Nettles was quoted...he has declined an offer for a cameo role in the "Bergerac" remake. They finally broke down and asked him 🙄... in the last article I read, he seemed to be somewhat hurt that they went so far in the process and did not ask for his participation (on a small scale). He now said that he felt he was too old to participate and left it at that. There are probably a lot more emotions behind that statement and may be if things were handled differently he would have accepted. A small role in the opening episode would have been nice. I am bummed about the whole thing and also finding out that they only intend to film in the Channel Islands for a few crucial scenes, the bulk of the filming is going to be done in Devon. Not good from my perspective.

solar wrote a year ago: 1

Hey  Brit  .........   sounds like  John  has got his back up a bit .  Can't blame him ....   coming at him late like that as if it were a last minute thought .  Filming should be done in the Channel  Islands  not most of it in Devon or anywhere else.   Remakes  are so  tricky ....  always compared to the orig.

Not been a good summer for me ,  first a good friend  passing in  June  and then my brother's  sudden illness and eventual death  in  early July  hit me hard and knocked me back .  They say these things come in 3 's  ....   I  dread  August.

Ain't that the truth, Brit. I'm so glad your medical analysis helped!

Curiously, I am enjoying Professor T with Ben Miller, as is hubby. I suggested the best version, with Koen de Bouw - but he doesn't want to 'read' his television.......sigh.

My favorite series, thus far, is Seaside Hotel.

Oh Solar, I am so sorry, you have had so much loss in your life. Dear Lord, you have been knocked flat with the recent passing of your close friend and your brother. My heart goes out to you, my friend.

I have been to that brink and back more times than I would ever want to be and I deal with those emotions these days standing on a very thin line, knowing fully how fortunate I am to be standing on it.

My overriding thought each day is just to keep everyone alive to move on to the next. That thought can become all consuming. I say this because I too get caught up in that "third" foot falling.  I wish whomever said that "things come in three's" kept their damn mouth shut - it is not a good thought to carry around - and it is not true. Yet, there it is, out there in the universe, and it can live in our heads making us dread what is to come next. I have decided that I am going to fight letting it have any space in my brain and carry on in a positive light as I need to stay strong for the people I love.

Please don't allow that thought room in your head, your heart is so heavy with grief right now, you don't need one iota more of it. ((hugs))

Please don't allow that thought room in your head,

Thanks Brit  ......  I'll get workin' on getting that thought out of my head.

Soler, so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother, so soon after your good friend.

and Brit. Those furry personalities take up a big part of our hearts, don't they? Glad to hear that the vets figured out what was causing the problem and that you have a treatment plan.

I was happy with the way they wrapped this 2nd season of Ray, altho I'm not sure if there are plans do make another. If there is, I do wish she would find a romantic interest that isn't a part of the police service!!

I was NOT happy with the way they ended Professor T!!  I read that there is another installment of this series in the works, but perhaps not airing on our screens for another year and a half  :(

solar wrote a year ago: 1

Thanks  appara  .....   my  fav. of the  Sunday night shows  on  PBS  is  Prof.  T ....   haven't watched  the last ep.  yet  , but have it in  PVR.

Brit  .....   finally finished    ' The  Crown '   ( Netflix )  and there was a lot of it.   6  Seasons  of  10  Eps. each .   First 2 Seasons were good  ,  dragged a bit in the middle  but the last 2 Seasons were  good  also .  At the end a screen appeared  asking for a rating ..  I gave it the equivalent of a thumbs up.   Enjoyed the last  Prof. T  ,  up until the end ,  did not like the end.

BritMystery wrote a year ago: 1

Solar, rewatching "The Crown" is a big undertaking. Sometimes you are just in the mood to step back in to a long series and relive it again. There are many fans that do this with "Downton" and love it all over again (as I have read on the various British TV FB pages) - which you also have done. I can't tell you how many times I have watch Jane Austen's 1995 "Persuasion" and A&E's "Pride and Prejudice" through the years. Some productions never loose their luster.

I enjoyed the early seasons with Claire Foy, after her departure though I struggled with much of the later cast. Along with your recommendation, I have read good things about the last two seasons - which I did not get to see as we got rid of Netflix around that time. We may get Netflix back for awhile as the Hubs is a big fan of "Emily in Paris" and the next season is coming out soon. If we do, I'll make sure to get caught up on those last seasons of the Crown.

I did not watch Ben Miller's version of Professor T - gave it a start, but didn't get too far in to the first season before I gave up. I did enjoy the Belgium version though - particularly the finale season of it. I thought it was the best and I remember it came to a satisfactory conclusion.

Interestingly, I have read (again on various FB TV sites) that they somewhat changed the story in the Miller remake... and there were people like you that said they did not care for how it ended. To compound this, I read that there is going to be a S4 of the remake - this has led these same people to question where they are going with the series ('cause the original only had three seasons and was done after that).

solar wrote a year ago: 1

Yeah  Brit  .....   Claire Foy was the best  ' Queen '   the last one was  clearly the last .   I'd  love to see Ben Miller in something  other that  ' T '   glad ta hear of another season but what they did at the end of the last ep. was  unnecessary  IMHO .  They killed off one of the  cops who was a part of this show through out it's run . They struck her down with a car , I thought she could survive this but  the car stopped , reversed ,  and backed over her again , I knew they meant it to be fatal .  They panned off as if it were a drone shot and that was it ,  end  of.   Don't like seeing  this done  with a series long  character . So  S4  will not be the same if they do make it .

"They killed off one of the cop who was a part of this show through out it's run."

Solar, so that is what happened!  I was wondering what was upsetting people so much about the way it ended. That was not part of the Belgium storyline - Donckers leaving was handled differently and came at the end of S2.

I finished "DI Ray" - I thought the finale episode tied things up nicely and I honestly don't see room within the present storyline to continue the series. It's done, imo... time for Parminder Nagra to move on to something else.

It's been a quiet week on the PBS television front. DI Ray and Tempest are wrapped, only one more Grantchester on Sunday - and I'm feeling uneasy about the direction this one is going!

I am enjoying watching Jean as she investigates her husbands death in the Madam Blanc Mysteries. I hope PBS has access to the next series!

I'm also watching (reading) season 2 of Astrid, and finishing up season 2 in the Brokenwood Mysteries, and my guide doesn't go as far enough for me to see if season 3 is going to follow.

We had a wildfire in our Jasper Park, fortunately a good portion of the housing and businesses were saved. It will change the landscape there for quite a few years!

solar wrote a year ago: 1

appara  ....  followed the news on the Jasper fire  ...  seems  western  wild fires  are becoming larger and more frequent  ... down to climate change is one reason I heard .

Got  Magpie  Murders  starting on  PBS  on  Aug. 11 followed by  Moonflower  Murders  on  Sept. 15 ...   then there's the  Marlow  Murder  Club  starting on Oct. 27 ...  can't seem to remember if I'd seen Marlow before .  Think the other two are  reruns thou.  Don't mind , will watch .  Currently watching  Marcella on  (  Netflix )  seen it before but a good series .

appara wrote a year ago: 1

Good morning!

Yes, Magpie Murder is a repeat, but I will watch it again. The Moonflower Murders is the 2nd installment, the critics are raving - sometimes that isn't a good sign for me!  LOL But I'm sure that I will enjoy it. I also read on the PBS site that it's going to be 3 Sundays, two episodes back to back. They must have quite a bit planned for the fall to rush this one through?

I haven't seen the Marlow Murder Club, but it looks right up my alley!

A lot of our wildfires are due to old growth forests, and no firebreaks between them and the housing that is slowing spreading. On top of that, with federal budget cuts, followed by provincial cuts, the rappelling program was shut down, so areas with no access just take off like wildfire! (no pun intended) I am going camping with a girlfriend in the beginning of September, just here in our Cold Lake Provincial Park at the end of my road (adventurous eh?) Here they haven't cleared any of the underbrush or fallen dead trees in decades (policy to keep it as nature intended). Only one road in, 100 campsites with the forest surrounding each site. A recipe for disaster one day, I'm sure!  As to that point, we have had some dumbasses in the park setting off fireworks on Canada Day over the past years!!  For now, our whole northern province is under a fire ban. On the plus side, we did get a wet and wild storm here just recently. I wish I could post photos of the sunset in the storm, with smoke turning the whole sky rhubarb red!

deedee713 wrote a year ago: 1

appara, good to hear you're okay. It is terrible to read about - some bright lights in the wildfire whose instincts led them to safety. The horror of Park Fire in CA is some nut job deliberately setting it.

I couldn't get interested in the new vicar in Grantchester.

Yes, Brit, there was no need to kill off Donckers in ProfT, guess she wanted to leave the show. The mother died in the Belgian version, guess De LaTour wouldn't have it! Indeed, the last episode of DI Ray tied everything up nicely. Now, either deep six the racist theme or end the show.

solar, I rewatched Magpie Murders on PBS Passport, and it was good all over again. Glad to see Atticus is in Moonflower Murders.

Hi All!

Appara, just finished the finale episode of S2 of "Astrid" (it had been saved in my DVR recordings for some time) and it was soo good! Astrid has become one of my top TV favs. Hoping S3 will follow soon, but I don't have anything showing on my end either regarding when it will air.

So glad you are enjoying the first season of the "Madame Blanc Mysteries" - I thought you would.

I am a few episodes behind on "Grantchester", the last episode I watched was the one in Geordie's daughter's office.

As Deedee says, so terrible to have to see people in Northern Canada and California reliving these terrible wildfires again. Based on what we (in the States) have learned from our own experiences, yes, it would be best to rethink that "keep it as natural policy" regarding the undergrowth and fallen trees. It is a recipe for disaster.
