reverse countdown

dpratt wrote a year ago: 1

The problem I have with the countdown is that new shows and seasons I would ordinarily want to watch never show up because they're not added to TVmaze until they've aired. I've missed many shows because of this problem.

My suggestion is to allow users to browse the countdown in reverse so that we can see shows that have already began airing.

We kind of already have this. If you follow the shows you're interested in they will appear in your Watchlist once they start airing.

The only reason I use countdown is to find shows that I might like so that I can follow them. So again a reverse countdown would be helpful to help me find shows I don't yet follow. It also helps find shows that already aired but weren't added to TVmaze yet at the time so they're not showing up in this month's calendar. Typically this applies to streaming shows that don't have adequate press releases announcing their release date. So they just drop without any fanfare. They don't show up in Countdown and they don't necessarily show up on the current month's Calendar if contributors haven't added them yet.

Reverse Countdown would be really easy to implement. You just have to have the option to go two directions.

Currently the countdown as it is doesn't help me find shows since over and over again streaming shows that are scheduled to air aren't in there. And by the time they are added to TVmaze, they've already premiered and the countdown doesn't show them.

What you want is under the Shows page: https://www.tvmaze.com/shows

From that page, you can sort shows using a variety of parameters, including premiere date.

Thanks that helps. Looks like the year is the only date parameter that it accepts though.

I do like the idea of seeing countdown in reverse to quickly find something I missed.
I've noted it down. Will talk with David about it when the time is right.

Having reverse sort is very useful. Also in many other cases.
Like very long episode lists that truncate before you reach the chronologically 'first' entry.
And my personal pet peeve, the order of episodes within a show on the main Watchlist.

So, if I understand what dpratt is driving at, I think I would also find that usefull.

I was going to inquire as to sorting the countdown list by things like show type, genre, language (country doesn't matter so much if it's in English or captioned), etc. I really don't like having to scroll through pages of competitions, "reality" shows, and game shows. Maybe some people don't want to bother with sitcoms or docu-series or all the Japanese animes.

Finding new shows before they start airing can be a daunting, time consuming task especially, as dpratt indicated, if there is insufficient PR. I try to scroll through the season premiers countdown every week for the next 8 days but, sometimes forget or just don't have time. Adding sorting options would help streamline the process.
