Some features

BTW, I was wondering if there should not be a category for shows considered a mini-series with 6 episodes or less? I just now added a new 3 episode only mini-series "Civil War: Blood on the Battlefields" but I had to add it as a documentary series.

JuanArango wrote 10 years ago: 1

My vote for this is a "YES", but then we need to exactly specify where a "mini-series" ends and a "normal series" starts (episode wise).

cheers
Juan

david wrote 10 years ago: 1

I don't think "mini series" should be show type. If we do this, you would lose the information whether it is a scripted/documentary/etc mini-series. That information is a lot more useful than whether it is a "mini series" or not, because what does it really mean to be a mini series anyway?

You could add Miniseries as a Genre like they do on TheTVDB.com, but it simply classifies as a short series that was meant to have only 1 season, but for me it is personally just the same as a normal series

Yeah, then we'd have to argue about when something is and isn't a mini series: some "regular" British shows have just 6 episodes as well. You can just look at a show's episode list and determine for yourself whether you think it's mini or not ;-)

That would be the case if there was a place on the showpage to put the total # of Episodes that were scheduled to air. Otherwise if all the episodes do not show on the episode list yet how is anyone to know if it is 3 episodes, 6 episodes or 23 episodes?

Is it at all possible to add a AKA field to TV shows like we have for people please? There are a lot of shows that when in development have one name and then before the show finally airs they change the show's title. One new show titled "Blood & Oil" had it's name changed 2 times so far and it will not air it's very 1st episode until 25 September so will it change again? The show first was going to be called "Boom" then a few months later it was changed to "Oil" so hopefully this 3rd title will stick permanently. This is just one example of many shows that have had that titles changed before airing their 1st episode. As a matter of fact I noticed a few months ago that 4 different Networks have a show in the development with the very same title and I bet that at least 3 of those shows will have their titles changed at least 1 time if not more. I cannot remember the name of the title right this minute but I will be on the lookout for it again as i originally found it listed at futoncritic.com.

Besides the obvious reason(s) to have aka's for shows I believe it will also cut-down on shows being added to the site under 2 or more different titles?

There is already an AKA field on TVmaze :).

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

OK now more information would be greatly appreciated please? Why do I not see it on any Show's homepage or any way to add or update it? Can you please tell me what I am not seeing or how i find it on shows please becasue this does not tell me anything "There is already an AKA field on TVmaze :)."?

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

OK, now I understand and it is NOT showing on the main show page you only see it when you click on the Edit button, so can it be added to the show page and to the Create Show page please?

I added 2 AKA's to "Blood & Oil" however when they have been added they still do NOT appear on the Show page so this must be a BUG?

The aka field is there, so that people find a show, in case they search for an older title the show had when it was in development. Or when the show has a different name in another country.
So they will always get directed to the show, even if they search for the foreign title.

The show page itself only displays the title the show "really" has in the origin country it is/was aired in.

Hope that helped explaining it.

if you got any more questions concerning this, feel free to ask.

cheers
Juan

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

Thanks anyways Juan but I already knew why there is an AKA I however...

1. Think the AKA(s) should still show up on every show page to the far right like it does for people please?

2. - AKA needs to be added to the "Create Show" form Please, so it is not forgotten and so no one has to go back into any show just created to add them in because that is then doing double work and I call double work "A big waste of time".

david wrote 10 years ago: 1

For shows, the AKA list isn't shown in the "Show Info" box, because the list of AKA's can be pretty large and this would mess up the layout. But it would indeed make sense to show them on the show main page.

Paging dr. Jan. Perhaps we can show them on the right side below the ad?

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

I would greatly appreciate it if you could possibly put it on there somewhere. BTW speaking of the possibility of a long list, I can't image a show having too many however a person now there you will find some with a lot of AKA's a good example is wrestlers and 1 comes to mind "Kane" who has 17 of them so far all of which are listed here by me! I just went looking for him however for some strange reason the site search will not bring him up. I had to put in the show he is in to find him again "WWE Monday Night RAW" can you please see why he cannot be found by his name please?

We'd likely show one aka in the info box and link to a page where there are multiple aka's with a possible link to the country of origin.
Ultimately we should have a detail page where all those akas can go into with other technical specs and details of a show. This way we can add as much info without diluting info throughout too many sections.

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

That sounds very reasonable and a great idea to me Ms. Jan!

Hi, I have more suggestions:

(1) Edit the date you started and ended viewing the series.

(2) Setting a priority to watch.

(3) Adding a "Total Times Re-watched Series" and a "Re-watch Value" (from high to low).

(4) A space to write private comments about a series.

(5) Rate individual episodes.

(6) Adding official links of the series, IMDb link, and a place to show the rating it has on IMDb and other sources.

(7) Adding a category option, similar to tags, but this one public. The thing is, the Genre hierarchy is too simple, and categories would allow for a wide array of options, e.g., "Award-winning word", "Anti-hero protagonist", "Adapted from a book", "Multiple Protagonists", "Survival", "Strong Male/Female Lead", etc. You would click on a category and then jump to a list of works thus categorised.

(8) Adding a "Related Series", for example, shows that air on UK and then are copied in the US (Skins, The Office...), or that have the same director, etc.

(9) Add associated names for a series. This would allow to add titles in other languages.

(10) Add more filtering options: Language, (Do Not) Show Works I'm Following, exclude this genre or category...

Hi Jollyjumper,

Tnx for the suggestions. From the general look of your suggestions it seems you would like for tvmaze to have the tools to keep a personal diary of the shows you've been watching.

5, 6, 9 are already possible.

4) What kind of personal notes would you be making?

6) imdb is not an official source, rather it is a reliable source. An official source is f.e. the network showpage.

8) adding related shows and suggestions is something we would like to add eventually.

9) we're already discussing further development on this feature to make it more prominent.

10) filtering out shows that you're following seems like a good addition. Language could be a bit tricky.

Juan and David will probably drop their opinion on these later today.
