Ratings Roundup for the Week of April 3, 2022

ABC made several moves with regard to its stable of reality shows last week. Good news for Steve Harvey fans, Judge Steve Harvey was renewed for a second season. In the hmm category, the network plans to shift Dancing with the Stars off the main network and air it exclusively on Disney+ next season. It's an interesting decision, to say the least. Is parent company, Disney, trying to plumb a new audience by shifting reality shows over to its streamer? Up until now, most streaming content has been scripted. The network also cancelled three of its game shows. Celebrity Dating Game, The Hustler, and Match Game all received pink slips last week. Big Sky managed to find a hundred thousand more viewers last week, maybe too little too late, however. The only thing that can save it is the fact A Million Little Things is doing worse. It was even with its last new episode a couple of weeks ago. The Wonder Years settled at a low. It will likely squeak a season two, but unless those numbers come up, it won't get a season three.

CBS execs saw the awards show rebound continue last week. After a successful Oscars over on ABC, The Grammys were also up significantly over last year. The network announced SWAT was renewed for a sixth season last week. Magnum PI and Blue Bloods each had even ratings with the previous week. Both did manage to pick up a couple of hundred thousand viewers and should be renewed. How We Roll lost almost a million viewers off its premiere. It is likely done. Good Sam shed another two hundred thousand viewers, and won't be back next season.

NBC saw the return of the Chicago shows after a couple of weeks off. Chicago Fire was up a tenth. Med and PD were even. American Song Contest continued to crater last week, losing another three hundred thousand viewers. Ratings for those last five episodes yet to air are going to hurt, assuming the show isn't yanked outright. The Endgame was pulled for an episode of Weakest Link, which did no better in the timeslot and also didn't improve from its regular night's ratings either. Young Rock and Mr Mayor each dropped a hundred thousand viewers last week.

FOX announced The Cleaning Lady was renewed for a second season last week. Call Me Kat picked up three hundred thousand viewers. It might squeak a third season. The Resident picked up a couple hundred thousand viewers, it should also be renewed. Name That Tune lost a ratings tenth off its premiere but did pick up a hundred thousand viewers. Welcome to Flatch has settled at less than a million viewers per week. The question is, will the network keep it, or dump the show onto its streamer to burn off the remaining episodes.

Right now CBS still owns half of The CW, (it's the 'C' part, Warner Bros. is the 'W' part) so technically, they wouldn't have to buy anything to run them on The CW. (As long as the balance between CBS and Warners produced shows remains equal-ish). The CW, however, has enough of its own problems without taking on more CBS cast-offs.

FOX seems far more interested in running "reality" shows over scripted ones, and more and more networks are keeping their schedules in-house. (CBS airs CBS produced shows. FOX airs FOX/Disney produced shows, etc)

Perhaps FOX or the CW should see if they could buy some of the shows CBS discards so easily.
