Ratings Roundup Week of March 18, 2018

NCAA basketball again topped the chart for CBS last week; but in amongst the b-ball and reruns of NCIS and Bull, the Eye did have one premiere last week. Instinct opened to fair numbers, which gives CBS three new dramas hovering in the 1.0 range. If this latest crime drama can hold its audience, it will be an interesting upfronts for the network to see if all three make it to a season two.

ABC wrapped Speechless last week on a high note as the comedy scored one of the highest ratings for the season. Station 19 premiered last week with a good opening, if it can hold there it should see a season two. Deception lost a good chunk of its opening audience from its premiere; if it can't recover at least some of those viewers, the series will be short-lived. For The People lost two tenths from its premiere and is pretty much done.

NBC premiered its Sunday reality shows last week with Little Big Shots returning about where it ended last year. Genius Junior also started well and since it's cheaper to make should see a renewal if it stays at its current numbers. Rise held from its premiere while Timeless lost a tenth, things are not looking good for the time-travel series. And for anyone interested in the singing competition head-to-head, The Voice has beat out American Idol two weeks in a row on Monday nights.

FOX wrapped The X-Files last week with the program up a couple of tenth from the week before. Now starts the guessing game on if the show will see any future episodes. No renewals or cancellations announced last week. What do you think will get renewed or canceled this season?

@SilverSurfer I completely agree with you, though they did manage seasons of the show before without Duchovny so ... I think if the ratings had been higher, there would have been more of a chance of either Anderson getting talked into it or the show continuing without her. With things as they stand however there isn't that much incentive for the network to keep the series going.

SilverSurfer posted 6 years ago

Gillian Anderson has said she is done and won't do anymore X-Files. Assuming she sticks to her word there is 0% chance, IMHO, that they will continue without her as part of the series. ymmv

No reason to think Black Lightning won't be renewed, it's done very well.

gmpugs posted 6 years ago

I haven't had a chance to watch last week's Black Lightning yet, but it beat Legends? Wow, I thought it (Legends) was rather good. And a question: will Black Lightning be renewed for a season 2? I've liked what I've seen of it so far.
