FOX had a busy week last week. In addition to some big NFL numbers, the network had two premieres and a host of renewal announcements. The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, and Family Guy were all renewed for two-year deals. Conspicuous in its absence was any sort of renewal for The Great North, which has never been much of a ratings winner. The network has other animated programs in the pipe, so fans of The Great North should probably be concerned. An American version of Accused premiered after the NFL playoff game with a solid audience. Unfortunately, those eyeballs didn't follow the show to its regular night, and it lost three-quarters of its premiere audience. Fans of 911: Lone Star either didn't know about its premiere or didn't know it was on a new night. The show opened with some of its lowest ratings. Alert: Missing Persons Unit managed to pick up half a million viewers. If it doesn't lose anything more, it could squeak a renewal.

ABC premiered the latest season of The Bachelor with some of its lowest ratings. The Rookie was down four hundred thousand viewers, which also pulled down The Rookie: Feds by a couple hundred thousand viewers. Will Trent was down three hundred thousand viewers, but it might squeak a renewal if Big Sky is cancelled. The Good Doctor returned after a two-month break, down three hundred thousand viewers.

CBS handed out renewals to The Neighborhood and Bob (Hearts) Abishola last week. The Neighborhood picked up more than a million viewers before the renewal announcement. Bob (Hearts) Abishola was up almost a million viewers. Lingo was up two hundred thousand viewers and will likely be renewed. NCIS was up a million and a half viewers, it will be renewed as long as the production wants to make it. NCIS: Hawai'i was up a million viewers and is likely safe as well.

NBC saw something last week that it hasn't seen in years: a comedy at the top of its ratings chart. Night Court lost some of its premiere audience, as expected, but it held onto enough eyeballs to take the top spot. It will easily be renewed. Other comedies on the network are now on notice that anaemic numbers won't cut it for long. American Auto premiered after Night Court and managed to lose more than half of its lead-in audience. Not a good start. Expect at least one of the other three currently airing half-hour comedies to receive cancellation news, and it wouldn't be that surprising if the network dropped more than one.

The CW saw a few more shows return last week. All American and All American: Homecoming returned even with their last new episodes. All American: Homecoming has had decent ratings, but its audience numbers are consistently low. It may be a hard sell for the spin-off series to earn a renewal in the current NexStar climate. Walker was even with the previous week, and should be renewed. Walker: Independence is on less stable ground. If the CW cancels it, it might find a second life on the Paramount+ streamer. The Winchesters returned after a two-month break, even with its last new episode in December.

Hmm, my notes say they were renewed through the 2023-24 season. I'll have to check.
I keep a well-organized record of renewals & cancellations of shows I'm interested in. I was puzzled by that comment so I checked again and did the math. The three-season renewal of the Chicago shows was announced on Feb. 27, 2020. At that time, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med were midway their 8th, 7th, and 5th season respectively. They are currently midway their 11th, 10th, and 8th season respectively, meaning this is their last season of their three-season renewal. They have not yet been renewed for next season. Not that I have any doubt that they will. I believe that I'm right but please check again in case I missed something. :)
i've got to start paying attention to la brea. i looked at the synopsis for last weeks episodes and holy #*$% it's nothing like i thought it was like. i thought it was like a modern day land of the lost with a little sci fi thrown in.
that is so good to hear. at first i was not really into the show, partly because i didn't expect it had any chance of being renewed, but with every episode i love it more and more and it's characters. last monday's episode is one of my favorite ones from either series.
The Chicago shows have already been renewed for next season (that will be the last year of their multi-year renewal). Assuming the ratings don't fall off a cliff next season, all three are likely to keep getting renewed. They are the highest-rated dramas on the network.
Parent show, NCIS will keep getting renewed as long as the production wants to make it. Its numbers dipped hard at the beginning of the season, but have recovered to where they were last season, and even with newer shows nipping at its heels, it's still the number one or two highest-rated drama every week. NCIS: Los Angeles will end this season, and NCIS: Hawai'i, while not the ratings winner of other iterations of the show, will probably be renewed for at least a couple more seasons. Shows that run full-season episode counts, and get renewed for a third season are practically guaranteed a fourth season to pump up the episode count for syndication.
Is there any end to series like Chicago, and NCIS?😁 we will definitely enjoy these types of series. Loss for those who ignore these because of lots of episodes.
The ratings Roundup article is published every Monday morning (US mountain time). I did check the ratings for last Tuesday and QL was up over its last new episode on Jan 9.
is it too early to know about the ratings for the new quantum leap episode.
NBC is in a weird place with its scheduling thanks to NFL football. They want those games for the sweet, sweet ratings, but as the season winds down and they get into the playoffs, it plays merry hell with the schedules, and the network ends up juggling things around, for sweeps in February and May.
