Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Joseph Sikora studied acting at the Piven Theatre Workshop, and received his BA degree in Theatre from Columbia College, Chicago. As a teenager he appeared in a McDonald's commercial alongside Michael Jordan, and made his Broadway debut in 2006 as one of the leads on The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial. His first screen credit was as Joe Sikorra in a 1987 episode of Roomies.
