Adding untitled tv shows

Calamaz wrote 9 years ago: 1

There are a couple of shows with series orders out there, like Woody Allen's tv show on Amazon, and Seth MacFarlanes show on Fox, that haven't yet a title. To keep track of them, I would like to add them to TV Maze, and then change to the correct title when the name is announced. Is that ok?

I would say we need to wait until there is at least a working title for a show.

Name of the series should be confirmed in order to add them. We can't process them if no name is known yes, cause having 20 series named 'Untitled' will be a mess and hard to find a specific series and definitely will create a tendency for us to create duplicates.

Also, if you want to call the show "Untitled ", no one has a clue what a show it was.

Presumably the naming convention of an unnamed show would have a unique name that would match what they typically use in the trades, like "Untitled Bob Smith Project" or somesuch. Which would solve the problem of "Untitled" not giving information.

Note that I'm not saying that TVMaze should list untitled TV projects. Only that no insurmountable barrier exists to doing so.

LouisWu wrote 9 years ago: 1

As I understood it, chances for untitled projects to be picked up to series are far, far less than 50%. Considering that TVmaze requires that at least one episode (including pilot) actually aired, I would prefer to wait until the show title is finalized.

Gadfly wrote 9 years ago: 1

It depends on a lot of factors. An actor actually coming out in an interview and saying, "Yeah, I'm currently working with Paramount on the first episode of my new TV series, but we haven't decided on a name yet," is a lot more definite than an article in Deadline about how, "Such-n-such actor is in talks with Universal to develop a show with himself as the main character."

That Seth MacFarlane project would be really tempting to add, tho. As it's been picked up for 13 episodes and most of the main cast already known.

Gadfly wrote 9 years ago: 1

As with most things, a general policy would have to be as prohibitive as possible. Whether staff wants to make exceptions is up to them.

That isn't the whole story. A show can be added when it is the intention that at least 2 episodes will be released. This means once a network has ordered more than one episode, the show can be added, even if it's still in development.

On topic, I think it's best to require that at least a working/development title for the show is known. Otherwise, adding any information about it isn't very useful since people won't be able to find it.

What's the big hurry to add these untitled projects anyway? If they don't even have a working title yet, they are a long time from airing.

For The seth McFarlane show, though, they gave it a title last week. A titile that might change, but that happens all the time. It's called Orville. you can check the deadline news about the casting of the 2 of the actors.

the nicole byer project project's title changed twice within a week... And the kaplan got a title just last week though they will air in september.

If a show gets a title we can add it, we just have to change it if gets a new title :)

What if we make up a title? I don't mean for scripted shows where cast may not be fully know, etc but, for example ...

Made Up Name : Hasan Minhaj Talk Show

Web : Netflix

Episodes : 22

Debut : 2018

Cast : Hasan Minhaj

Lotsa info there, just a title is missing. Although I think in this case "Untitled Hasan Minhaj Talk Show" would also work just fine. Just my 2 cents.

There's a big chance that when the show will got a name, and someone would request it, it would be added again as a duplicate. Some people don't even bother searching for a requested show name, let alone looking by a cast members :)

Anyway, why rush? Is something burning? :D
It will be added eventually, one way or another.
