I didn't address flashbacks, which is theoretically a whole other can of worms. Kevin87 mentioned flashbacks, but then went on to say "archived footage" a couple of times.
Archive footage in American clip shows typically don't credit the actors in the footage. It depends on your definition of "flashback". The Arrow "five years later" flashbacks, for instance, are entirely new and not archive footage. Heck, some of the actors on the show only appear in archive footage.
But the Star Trek/Next Gen episode, "Shades of Gray", doesn't credit any of the actors who appeared in the archive footage when we get flashbacks or memory replays or whatever it is. When the Doctor is dying at the end of "Logopolis" on Doctor Who, all the companions that he sees are archive footage aren't credited.
If actors are credited on-screen in a scripted show, they should be credited at TVMaze. If not, they shouldn't. If that's followed, then it doesn't matter what you want to call the scenes that they're in: Archive footage or flashbacks or whatever. If we're talking "reality" shows (including news shows), I'd say there's a difference between Obama showing up as a talking walking guest on a show, and them running a clip of him giving a speech. But you don't typically have flashbacks in a real-life show, either.

I used the term flashback because they were remembering Dylan O'Brien's character by thinking back but his appearances were all footage from previous episodes. Nothing new was filmed though, the "flashbacks" were just reusing the scenes from what has been shown throughout the series so far. Which is why I asked if he should be listed in cast appearance or not because for that episode in particular, even though the opening credits stay the same regardless of which character is actually featured in the episode instead of episode specific opening credits for the main cast, it was all archive footage from important scenes from the past 5 seasons of Stiles in relation to the other three characters that were trying to remember him.

If he wasn't listed onscreen and it featured no new footage of him, I'd say he doesn't get listed here. If he was and new footage was featured, he should be. If he wasn't listed onscreen but there was new footage of him, he'd be Uncredited.

Whether it was flashbacks, or archive footage, or whatever anyone wants to call it.

I agree :)

What if he's listed but it's old footage? Some shows have episode specific opening titles where it only credits the people featured in the episode but Teen Wolf has the same credits throughout the season even when not all characters that are credited appear. Dylan O'Brien, Melissa Ponzio and JR Bourne are all main cast and appear in the opening credits, but Bourne and Ponzio weren't in it at all and O'Brien was just reused footage. So even if it's just reusing scenes from old episodes, since his name appears in the opening credits then he should stay in cast appearance?

I would say no :)

amazon had ordered x3 12-episode seasons for this show, an initial agreement of 36 episodes over three years. 3x12=36
so no idea why a 13th episode keeps getting added: http://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/1049651/the-grand-tour-1x13-tba
isn't season 1 done now? :/

I'm not the one who adds it, but perhaps because of tweets like these?

It is entirely possible that Amazon counts the two-part special "The Beach (Buggy) Boys" as one episode, thus there really should be one episode left to air.

The Grand Tour have one more episode this season, with the tent recording being in Dubai.
