Masterpiece Classics

I'm curious what we should do (if anything) about this listing.

Masterpiece Classics is basically programs from the BBC that make it over to the US. For example, this episode popped up on my calendar today (the only reason I even know about any of this) http://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/1049854/masterpiece-classic-47x04-victoria-an-ordinary-woman which is the same as this listing from the BBC show Victoria that aired last year: http://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/893869/victoria-1x05-an-ordinary-woman

So what do we want to do with these sorts of things? Is it a duplicate and the Masterpiece Classics listing in general should be deleted as it's basically just re-transmissions of things that have already aired elsewhere, or is it considered enough of it's own show to remain?

Definitely looks like duplicate. They do not offer any original content, and everything they broadcast already exists (or will exist) as unique entries here. Victoria, Downtown Abbey, Sherlock and so on. It's like create new entries for each retranslation of any given series.

I believe the series is kept as there's original clips of a 'host' at the start of each episode who introduces the show and sometimes shows backstage footage from the show as well.

Ok, I can remember at least three of similar "series" from some russian and ukrainian channels, when a host talks for 5 minutes, basically saying episode title and a brief "previously on", and then showing the next episode of House of Cards for example. Or Game of Thrones. So, should those "series" be added as well?

That's just my opinion, but i think that broadcasting some pre-existing series with a brief presentation (which adds zero value to the story or the plot) doesn't make it a separate series. It's just one of the ways of commissioning the show.

And in the case of Victoria it seems, that they're reordering episodes, which is explicitly not allowed by policy.

I'm not arguing for or against having them. I 100% agreed with the opinion of removing them on TVRage, but because of the original content before the show they were kept. JDOG's adding the episodes, so maybe he thinks it's ok because of Rage having it added.

Gadfly wrote 8 years ago: 1

Actually, they were kept at TVRage because nobody seemed to be able to muster up the gumption to make a decision one way or another. Unless there was some further discussion backstage that I wasn't privy to. So they got added mostly because JDog added them, and most people didn't want to say "no" to him.

My guess would be that JDog adds them because FutonCritic or IMDB lists them as a separate show. I'm sure if you asked him, he'd have some rationalization.

I think it's confusing to have a show double-listed because it looks odd on the stars' pages. For instance, having Martin Freeman listed twice for the same role for the same episode, of Sherlock and Masterpiece Classic (or Masterpiece Mystery, or whatever they call it these days) looks kind of strange. As opposed to Benedict Cumberbatch, who looks kind of Strange. :)

A bit late since they've already been deleted but I agree that it's confusing to have them listed and they should be deleted

The question was rhetorical :)
