Now that I've seen it I agree that this is not a reboot. If it were then everyone playing an original Addams Family character would have a starring credit.

For example Catherine Zeta Jones and Luis Guzmán were credited as Guest Stars. Someone please remove them from the main cast.

Isaac Ordonez and George Burcea were also not credited as main cast and should be removed.

Thora Birch should also be removed. She probably won't appear on this show at all.

Moosa Mostafa's name also didn't appear in the opening credits unless I missed it. There were also some names in the opening credits that haven't been added to the cast yet.

I think it's at least deserving of a show relation though. It's hard to deny the show relation to the original show.

Except there is no direct relationship between Wednesday (2022) and The Addams Family (1964). The only similarity is that they both use the characters originally created by Charles Addams in his Addams Family cartoons printed in the New Yorker magazine (1938).

Instead of a show relation there should be a crew listing for both shows, Charles Addams 'Based on the work of', but we only have the option to pick 'Based on the Novel' in the crew types right now

What usually happens in things like this is that the characters are based on earlier works in general not just a single original point. In this case it looks like it draws more from the movie and TV series than from the NY magazine cartoon. I took a look at the NY cartoon and Wednesday can be seen smiling in multiple images. In this spinoff she never smiles. So that's proof that she is based more on later versions of Wednesday.

I guess it's a matter of opinion but I think this is a clear case of a spinoff. One could argue it's more of a spinoff of later works but I don't think it's fair to say it's just a spinoff of the NY magazine cartoon.

What @CosmicHowl said still stands. The idea we'd base a show relation on if a character smiles or not is obscene.

Wednesday doesn't smile in the new show and demonstrates a lack of emotion which is reminiscent of later works. So it's not a direct relationship to the cartoon from the New Yorker where she can be seen smiling in multiple images.

So my vote is to create a show relation to the original show. Not call it a reboot just franchise.

There isn't a vote to vote in. I've told you were following what @CosmicHowl said and that's final.

I'll just refer to the policy then. Both of the below apply here:

Reboot

A show with mostly the same characters as a previous show, remade for a different era

This still applies even though to me reboot is not the preferred show relation because most of the main characters from the original show are secondary characters here. I prefer:

Franchise

A show that's closely related to an existing show; because they share a similar name and premise, (main) crew or cast members portraying the same character, cinematic universe, and/or a continous storyline. This relation only applies when the similarites are present for the majority of the show's run; an occasional "crossover episode" between two shows that otherwise share no similarities does not warrant creating a show relation.

As highlighted in bold barring crossover episodes it just has to be closely related and take place in the same cinematic universe for it to apply. Wednesday is undeniably the same cinematic universe as the original show. It has to be since it has the same characters.

So that's what I meant when I say this is my vote. The shows are undeniably related. I'll leave it alone now.

There isn't a cinematic universe to force a show relation to fit here in the first place.

I watched 3 episodes now,  reboot is definitely not the correct relation.

Either franchise or nothing, we will talk about it in the staff chat :)
