British series aren't always referred to as a first season/series until a 2nd one is commissioned anyway, and even then it's not always retroactively changed, and when they're announced they usually call them # part series because that's how many episodes that series has not that it won't come back after that set number because UK shows call them a second/third etc series not season. That's why they say stuff like "back for a new 6 episode series" etc etc. BBC specifically says it'll come back, so it's not a mini series.
