What to Watch? What to Dump?

There's a lot of blood letting going on in the lead up to the upfronts. Many shows are one and done which leads me to my question ... which shows that are canceled after a single season this year are still worth the time to binge watch? And why? Which ones should be sent to the recycle bin? And why?

The season is not ended yet :)

Meanwhile The Crossing is not bad and Deception is worth a shot. But they better not be ending with the cliffhangers :)

Rise has been pretty good, like a mix of Glee's subject matter with the heart of Friday Night Lights/Parenthood. I'd need to wait for the final episode before I decide if I'd still recommend it to anybody or not though.

The crossing is nice to watch but it probably will end with a huge cliffhanger.

Deception was pretty much doomed from the start. A (late) mid-season replacement, and airing on 10 pm Sunday nights. Crossing didn't fare much better, just on Monday instead of Sunday There the kinds of shows that would normally air in summer: anyone remember The Whispers? ABC just bounced them back a bit.

I'm more interested in seeing if Timeless gets another reprieve, and what happens with Agents of SHIELD.

The Whispers Was pretty ok. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D I absolutely love, but I suspect it will be canceled.

How popular is Timeless? I like it but I get the feeling it's unfortunately overlooked. Also is Lethal Weapon likely to return? It's one of the movie adaptations I quite enjoy.

Timeless supposedly has a big fan following. Enough that they claim they convinced NBC to give it a second season. But then, they would. :)

NBC pretty much buried it on Sunday nights, which is not a spot where you put highly popular (i.e., producing ratings) shows. That also put it up in near-direct competition with cable shows.

It also doesn't appear to be a relatively "cheap" show to produce. A number of the episodes recreate whole earlier-century streets with dozens of extras in period costumes. Compare that to, say, Supernatural, which is modern-day, doesn't typically have more than a few extras (although the recent "Exodus" episode is an exception, but even then it was a bunch of refugees in ratty clothing), and does most of its filming in Canada filling in for whatever American town they go to. And they've only got one "set" location, the bunker.

One gets the impression that they brought Timeless back more to keep the production studio and/or creators happy, or to blow off a contractual obligation, rather than any desire to see it succeed.

It was renewed for a 13-episode 6th season.

If by crappy you mean the only good show left on ABC that isn't a comedy, then yes. :p Disney probably makes them keep it anyway, to have a Marvel show across all their platforms (except Disney Channel and Disney Jr, obviously) and it's most likely the most male-specific skewing show they have.

Some people just prefer quality over quantity XD
