Requesting new shows: use the request tool

david wrote 9 years ago: 1

The past week we've been overwhelmed with a lot of new users requesting shows to be added to our database. To streamline this process, we have now launched a tool to make it easier for everyone to request a new show; and to make it easier for us to add your requests.

From now on, to request a show, please go here: http://www.tvmaze.com/request

After verifying that the show you want to request isn't already in the list of pending suggestions, click "Request a Show" to start the process. In the form, please enter as much information about the show as you can provide. The more information is included in your request, the easier it'll be for us to verify and approve it. If you have additional information for your request (for example: to let us know that the network the show airs on is not yet added to TVmaze), please use the "comments" field.

After your request is created, someone with access to add shows to TVmaze will check it out as soon as possible. If all goes well, the request will be added and be moved to the "Approved" list. If your request can't be added, it'll be rejected and the discussion will likely move to this thread.

Feel free to keep using this thread for questions and discussion.

Excellent form and I'm sure it will streamline things a lot.

Might I suggest you make a nice FAT BUTTON for this tool at the top of the site?

Also easy to find access to the request/index page, so people can check it for what has been requested already?

I just saw that my request has been filled (damn quick, thanks) but the show has been dropped from the page, instead of remaining there "approved", perhaps a bug. Now just a comment here.

That's what I was thinking too, just didn't get a chance to say something before you did. And so far it seems like a neat tool.

When I`m trying to Create request, I got information:

Thetvdb ID "249124" has already been taken.

But I can`t find this show - on search list, on Pending, or on Approved shows.

I have no clue what an API is or does or how to use it however the 1st link takes me to this page:
The 2nd link takes me to a show here on tvmaze how does that help anyone?
Why did you add TVRage to the form since you know that site went defunct over 2 weeks ago please remove it?

The API is for developers. The tvrage ID is also there for the API: even though tvrage no longer exists, a lot of application still refer to shows by their tvrage ID's. Adding them on our side makes it easier for API users to switch over to TVmaze.

So you have a seperate form for those who do not use whatever this API thing is? Or do we just leave things blank we have no clue about?

Indeed, check the notes on top of the page: Only the name is required, but the more information you can provide the easier it'll be for us to validate and add your request.

So within a day after launching this, we have received over 200 requests. That's awesome, but also a large amount of requests to catch up with.

To help you help us, we've made a slight change. As you can see at http://www.tvmaze.com/request, requests are now by default sorted by their amount of points. The more information you provide in your initial request, the more points it'll get. The more points, the higher up the list, and the earlier your request will be handled. :)

Ladies and gentlemen,

do not worry if it takes some time till your requested show is added, it will be done, but due to the current very fast request speed and all the other heavy workload, it can maybe take a day but it also can take a week.

But be assured, we will add it :)

have a nice weekend and cheers
Juan

In light of the points, what can we as users do if someone else has requested a show but included next to no information? What if we also want that show but would do a better job at providing information?

Could you develop an option for others to add missing information, or should we just submit a separate request with more information?

Also, do these requests increase our contributor points as I feel especially for requests with high points should generate contributor points for the requester.

I can only answer you one part of your question, yes you can add a new request with better information, this will get the request up higher on the list :)

As for the contribution points you will have to wait for david or Jan to answer

cheers

Just a question:

Wouldn't it be better to be able to amend a request instead of posting a completely new request for the same show?

Perhaps the ability to vote for a request could be added to improve its chances of getting filled sooner.

Is there a way to add additional information to one's own request while it's pending?

I think this is not possible, but david will be able to answer this in detail.

I tested this, I tried requesting a show again with more information, however It stated "Thetvdb ID "82825" has already been taken."

If you do intend to allow people to submit again, this may be an issue. :)

Yes, you are correct on this, I will talk to david and Jan tomorrow about this issue :)

The only way around this duplicate tvdb ID# I can think of is add 1 digit to the end of the number. Even though it is not correct it will go through and be way higher on the submissions pending list?

Just don't include thetvdb id, as long as you have tvrage id I guess, that is what I did.

JAGUARDOG wrote:
Thanks for saying that maybe you can help me with that? That site is defunct/no more so how do you find that ID #. I have asked this question 3 times in 3 different threads and they have all been ignored? Do you have a URL to where you get that ID # from please?

Sometimes you can google "tvrage [showname]" and it sometimes shows you the id in the url, other times you can find the show on epguides.com and the link "Show Summary @TVRage" will often show the id in its url.
