A Little Late with Lilly Singh's primetime "special"

The "primetime special" episode isn't a special. NBC calls it Season 1 episode 3 on their web site. And in all ways it is a normal episode of the show. The only difference is that it aired at 10 pm instead of at its usual 1:35 am time.

Can we stop indexing episodes as specials just because they have the word "special" in the promotion or in the title?

...Unless unequivocally declared as such by the original network. Which is exactly the case. Apart from the different airtime it's 60' long, its premise is to "introduce primetime audiences to Singh" and it does not listed in the weekly guest list https://www.nbcumv.com/news/first-week-guests-announced-little-late-lilly-singh-september-16-september-20?show=7032782&network=33129, i.e. does not considered a regular episode.

How NBC decided to list it at their website after the broadcast is not really relevant. For example they list Tracee Ellis Ross episode on September 19. Despite that it was aired on 18th. Should we change the airdate in our listings to follow NBC website?

if the premise of an episode significally differs from normal episodes and if you can skip it without missing out on any story arcs, it's a special

This tells me that it is not a special because it's the same as normal episodes and if you missed this episode it would be just like missing any other episode.

Just because something airs at a different time or is a different length than normal episodes and just because the word special is used in the title or the promotion of it is no reason to categorize it as a special if in every other way it is a normal episode.

The way they list it on their web site is absolutely relevant because it shows that it is considered a regular episode by the network if it is indexed and numbered as such. The NBC app also lists it as Episode 3.

For what it worth, as any other daily talk show they don't use season numbering in the weekly episodic press release. So probably it would be appropriate to change the show to year based numbering.

Yeah, I did that when we got the first press release for it before it started airing, If it's not like that now someone changed it.

Oh and it's definatly a special with the different timeslot, 2 episodes on one day, being declared as a special, and so on.

It's also been discussed to death on this forum that nbc.com doesn't have the ability to list episodes as specials, so everything comes up as a new regular episode.

Also worth mentioning that TBA episodes are not allowed for the talk shows by policy.

If no official episode titles are available, the rules are as follows. In all these cases, the chosen format must be applied consistently within a show. For these shows, "TBA" may never be used as name.

For talk shows, a list of guests which appeared in the episode may be put in the name.

Yeah, actually it is year based, somehow I've missed it :D

Kudos for adding guest names. How do you list future episodes of talk shows if the guests are not announced ahead of time and TBA can't be used?

You don't :) You wait until guests are announced. What's the rush anyway? Especially considering the possibility that some of the episodes could be repeats, but you won't know that until you get a press release.
Today they're released the list for the next week, I suppose the week after will be announced next weekend. Shelley is away, so there's nobody to put it in data tasks, but I hope next week we will get it in time.

For what it is worth, just because they don't use a season number doesn't mean they don't follow that system. Colbert on Friday's clip show talked about the past season 4 and hoped this new season would be just as good. The View has been promoting their new season 23 since the new season began, The Talk also follows a Sept~June/July/August seasonal schedule and started the new season with Marie Osmond as the new host a few weeks ago. Ellen has also talked about the new season. Most talk shows, as far as I know, also follow a similar seasonal system not a year based system. A year based system may be easier to handle but that doesn't make it accurate. ymmv

You cite that FAQ which needs to be updated anyway since many shows release episodes outside of their "season" that still can't be skipped...

I added it as a special originally because NBC's press site literally calls it "The Primetime Special" and doesn't give it an episode number, as tnt shows. I'm sure NBC just lists the episode as episode #whatever so it will be in the correct place within the episodes otherwise it'd probably always be at the beginning or end and would be difficult to find.
