British TV/General Discussion

Solar, turns your stomach, doesn't it. I am so, so sorry for what my fellow Americans have unleashed on our friends in Canada and the world. Just know I am as appalled as you are. I think about you everyday knowing what turmoil this is causing in your life.

By the end of the evening I need a break from all the chaos to take my mind off of it, hence the desperate show flipping to find something to watch to escape for an hour or so. We need to take care of our mental health because this is all meant to wear us down and we must not allow that. Resistance takes strength.

Honestly  Brit  ..   Don't know which is more entertaining , Trumpski  or the Muskrat waving that  chainsaw  above his head .. Excuse me, Gotta duck out for more popcorn .  lol .  Having a dry spell , as you are , with finding  something  to watch  so I started looking  at the news .  Biiiiiiiiig  mistake .  lol     Currently watching  1883 on  Netflix  only  because Sam Elliott  is in it.

solar, way back when I wanted to marry Sam Elliott. And before that Robert Fuller of Laramie. Oh well. I too am disgusted at his bloviated pomposity and the use of tariffs to get his way. I hope his kids realize what he is.

Oh good, a place where the insanity is recognized for what it is. IMRL, every single person is an insanity acolyte. Or as the dear Guardian puts it, "Sycophancy and toadying are de rigueur in Trump’s court of self-aggrandizement".

Brit, after not finding anything I could stick with, I turned to the ubiquitous Dick Wolf. I found Chicago Fire on Verizon's On Demand, and was greeted by what seemed like hours of The More You Know. There went that idea.

I meant to add that I can't rewatch DCI Banks, a former favorite of mine.

Deedee, we all wanted to marry Sam Elliot. For me he was in his prime in "Road House", oh my - he was devastating handsome in that and oozed a sex appeal that few could ever have. He was just captivating. Sigh.

We watched DCI Banks a few years back and the Hubs - who is no British TV fan, really liked it. This actually was my first go around with the series, the Hubs stopped to watch a few minutes with me and got hooked.

I won't suggest 'Inspector Lynley" then, I didn't think I would want to rewatch that - loved it the first time around, but it never was something I thought I would want to rewatch. I was wrong, one day (a year or so ago) I decided to watch the first episode again and I was right back in to it. Loved the rewatch. But if you are not up for "DCI Banks" that won't interest you.

I started watching "Bonekickers" on Prime last night. Very good cast...everyone is so young, it's nice to see. I am not feeling it though. I will give it another episode, maybe it will gel with me, I am not counting on it though. Storyline is soo choppy.

I did recently finish a rewatch of "Wycliffe"...this is one older series that I think really holds-up. The stories are very well written, the cast is solid and it still keeps my interest episode to episode.

Don't know if I've already mentioned this but caught  Neil  Dudgeon on a U.K.  talk show recently  when he was  asked about  future  Midsomers . Filmed  in  winter  24 / 25 , he said  Midsomer  Series  25  will begin  filming  in  March  ...  which  makes  it  riiiiiiiiight  about  now .  Don't know  when we'll get it here but  I'll be first in line ta order the CD  when available .

solar wrote 7 months ago: 1

Should  of  said ..     begin filming in    ' late '   March ...      only caught it after  edit  option  timed  out .

Wow, Series 25! An early episode was just on my local PBS stations and I stopped to watch, it was "Judgement Day". Great cast in that one - one of the best; Joyce right in the middle of things, Cully hanging around, knee deep in the story herself, and a young, handsome John Nettles to boot. I have such nostalgia for the Anthony Horowitz/Brian True-May days.

I can remember when I first started watching the series, I was living in NY taking care of my Mom. I borrowed the CD's from the library for the early episodes and then went on to purchase them, I have the episodes on CD up to John Nettles' retirement. Actually, I saw that on PBS not too long ago. I think they cut the final scene at his retirement party. Yea, they never say "retirement" in that scene at the end, where I remember several speeches were made (and elbows raised) in acknowledgement of Tom's leaving in the original CD version. The TV (cut) version leaves you kind of flat at the end.

Yeah   Brit    ....    up   to   Series  25  ,  don't know how many  more  Series  will be  filmed .   Viewed  Dudgeon  (  again , on  some  U.K.  talk  show )  saying that  he has no intension of  retiring  ( squashing rumors  that he may soon leave the show )  and will be around as long  as he's asked  or  words to that effect.  Currently ,  I am viewing Series  24  ........   so   will be  starting over  at  the beginning with   '  The  Killings at  Badger's  Drift. '   in  late  April .   One thing  of  note :  currently  watching   Series  24   for  the  FIRST  time ,  looked up  when  I bought  it  (   keep  records )    JUNE  2024 .   Just  broke  the  cellophane  wrapping  last week  ,  didn't want ta see it  until  it was in  proper  order .  That's how organized  I am .  LOL     Sarah  and  Betty  are the current  Barnaby  family  replacing  Joyce and  Cully .  Betty is about  10 or 12  ,  unlike Cully who was already  grown  when the show  started.  Betty  has  been in a few  short scenes  and in some scenes she has no lines .  Ya know what they say about  kids and  animals  stealing the show .  They seem to be making sure  that does not  happen  ,   Paddy and his antics  have also been kept at a minimum .  The writing , for the most part , has been kept  up  and the viewership  seems to be strong ......  hope it stays that way  .....   ya know what happens when  sponsors start looking  around .

.

Solar, has the last season of "Doc Martin" aired by you yet? I did see it, over a year ago when it first started airing by me. I thought the last season was done well, it has more of the feel of the earlier episodes. You never mentioned that you watched it, wasn't sure if it hadn't come your way or you gave it a pass.

solar wrote 7 months ago: 1

Yeah  Brit  .... gave it a pass ,  I think .  Vaguely  remember it  being  on  but just passed it over .  The  early seasons were great  but remember being disappointed  in the later shows so I wasn't gonna bother with  any of them .  Thanks for the heads up on the last Season .  If  ( and when )  it  comes around again I'll be sure  ta have a view .

Guys, I found a new show that is very good! "Ludwick" on Britbox. They are dropping episodes every week at the moment. I wasn't going to bother because I thought it wouldn't interest me...wrong!  Finally, something new to watch. 🙌

Enjoy  Brit  ......  looked up the  IMDB  page .  Looks like a good  one .  Derek Jacobi is in it .  Haven't seen him for awhile .

Yes, Solar, he has a guest starring role in the series!  It really is a unique story, so great having something new and different to watch.

Richard Chamberlain has died at ninety... such an icon, end of another era with his passing. So loved him in his hey day and that remained throughout his life. I went on Amazon and purchased his "Shogun" box set (while the price was still reasonable, which it won't be for long).

I forgot all about that mini series until I was reminded of it while reading articles about his life today. It was such a favorite of mine, what a spectacular production. Looked to see if it was streaming anywhere and it is not, so I made the plunge. My DVD player is on its last leg, I am holding off getting a new one as we need to replace our larger screen TV in the family room and everything now has Smart TV technology - so I will need a DVD player that is compatible. I'll will try playing it on the old one and see how it goes.

solar wrote 7 months ago: 1

AHHHHHHHH    Brit  ......   The  times  are  a  changin ' .   My  DVD  player  has started ta make some noises but still plays .  I'm  thinking ,  time for a replacement , this one is getting  old.  I went  looking   online  ta do a  study - up  on  DVD  Players  and found some eye opening  new  realities  about   DVD / Blu ray  players.  Sales of  DVD / Blu ray have declined  86% since  2006 .  Read  that  Best - Buy  has stopped  selling  these Players  altogether  since  2024  ,  cited streaming  as the new  reality .   I panicked ,  how am I gonna play all my   Midsomer  DVD s .   NOT  TO WORRY  ,   you  can still buy   Blu ray / DVD  Players .  I ordered  one thru  Amazon  .   Got a Sony  with  ' Smart  Technology '  and  Multi   Region .  I wouldn't delay if I were you .  Wouldn't want ta have to go to E - Bay  for   used one ... which is what  it will eventually come to.

Solar, can you give me the specific info on the one you purchased from Amazon so I can find it. It sounds exactly what I (will) need and I prefer a Sony product.

Definately isn't the right place @RoseRed

They weren't undone, just put in scheduled blocks of time as it's the BBC Network and not a streaming service per policy. The episodes with a longer block can be adjusted. But if you have questions, do me a favor and take it over to Edit Requests.

Thanks for the prompt feedback - and will follow up there - thanks all!
