Will keep looking Brit ... I remember you talking about Diner before so I would really like to see it. Meanwhile , I am totally immersed in Outlander on Netflix .

Well, I had a "blast from the past" Sunday night viewing yesterday - Prime was running MHz on one of the "on now" channels, it was a "Montalbano" marathon... I caught 1/2 of an episode - was quick to get up to speed with that - I fall right in to it, when you are a long time fan that happens; then watched a "Making Montalbano" documentary I haven't seen in years; a short "Beck" interview, then they aired a doc with Andrea Camilleri author of the Montalbano books (which I had never seen), and then, on to a pivotal early episode of the series.
It certainly took me back, MHz used to air Sunday night's like that with a current episode of the series, a documentary or interview and would replay the earlier episode again at 12:00 AM, which I would always rewatch. It was a full night of great programming. It was so nice to revisit that again - full on live TV viewing with content that speaks to me. Made me kind of wistful.
Hi - not must see teevee, but not bad. Dalgliesh with Bertie Carvel, and Shetland.
So, imo, that's a better without (Marsden) and a worse without (Henshall).
Hope all your holidays are good ones, my friends.
Happy Holidays, Deedee! You watched "Shetland"!! I am so surprised because I didn't think you would without Doug Henshall, but you did and I am so glad.
I am really enjoying it, I love the whole atmosphere of the show ...the landscape, stories and the cast is great. Ashley Jensen was an iffy choice I thought at at first, but she is working for me. I like her relationship with Tosh - they work well together, there is no one upmanship with them - they work as a team.
TPTB could have ended the series when DH left, but they had enough foresight to reimage the series and bring in someone else without losing the essence of the show and the things (and remaining characters) that we love. Kudos to them. They did a much better job than the writers/producers did with "Unforgotten". They could (and should have) either given Sunny the lead or given the series up, imo it is not working with Cassie's replacement.
Hi Brit, happy holidays to you as well.
Yes, I surprised myself* but I am not finding a bounty on either Britbox or Acorn. Jensen isn't bad, and oh that landscape. I now think I'd like my caravan there.
Only problem is the weekly (I assume) drop. With streaming, I want to binge it.
I'm surprised Unforgotten is still on, it was dreadful when I tuned in and out after one episode.
*Didn't they have Perez going all schmoopy at the end? I would not have liked a schmoopy Perez.
Hey Deedee! I don't remember a schmoopy Perez per se, but I do remember thinking he (the actor, as well as, the character) is so over this. I did not enjoy that last episode with him as much as I expected to. When you feel (and see) that someone's heart isn't in to being there, it hits you right through the screen. It doesn't make for a compelling story and I thought it was a meh ending to his era. Disappointing, if I am to be honest.
I watched the second episode of "Shetland" last night and realized that Jimmy Yuill from "Wycliffe" is in it. He plays the older man, Angus traveling with the young girl in his white van. I am currently rewatching "Wycliffe", picking and choosing episodes that interest me. Still a good watch, it holds up after all these years. It ran from 1994-1998 (the beginning of the good old days), so it was a bit of a start to see him thirty years later.
Agree, I am not finding much to watch of interest lately. I am so happy that "Shetland" has starting dropping episodes so I have something to look forward to. I usually wait until all the episodes are aired before I start, but I am so starved for something to sink my teeth in to that I'll take the episode a week! And yea, that landscape is captivating, it really grabs you and holds on. The setting of the series is half the reason I watch.
Thinking of you Solar and Appara this Christmas Eve hoping that you find peace and happiness this Christmas season as we all have shared a year of profound loss. I am blessed to still have my little peanut, Miss Buddy, 🐇with me and for that I am so grateful.
Deedee, Merry Christmas and all the best to you and the Hubs!
I won't let this year come to a close without letting you all know how much you mean to me. ❤️

A contemporary update of Elizabeth George's novels will air next year starring Leo Suter as DI Thomas Lynley and Sofia Barclay as DS Havers.
... and thinking of you Brit and wish you a very Merry Christmas ..... white one here , snowed last night , like it's been snowing the last 3 days .... more shoveling today. It's been fun this last year talking about all the great shows we watch then share opinions on . Gotta stack in PVR of Shetlands and Death in Paradise eps. that I've been picking away at when I'm not clearing snow ( %$#@$# ) that is . LOL Lets do the same in 2025 ... and lots of Holiday treats for little peanut. Merry Christmas dee and to appara out in AB . Thanks sheerwater for the update on the Inspector Lynley remake ... enjoyed the old one with Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small and a very Merry Christmas to you over in merry ol' England.
Merry Christmas, Sheerwater! I rewatched "Inspector Lynley" a few years back (hadn't seen it since its' original airing so many moons ago) and enjoyed it so much! I was really surprised how much I did 'cause it was never something I thought I would rewatch even though I was a big fan and use to wait for the next season to drop with baited breath. I am a little apprehensive about this new venture, but I am certainly willing to give it a try!
Solar, we had a sprinkling of snow this morning which has all now disappeared. I don't envy you the snow (or the shoveling) - I had my fair share of it when I was living at my Mom's (with her) in NY. It snows a lot more there than it does here in NJ and like you, there were mountains of it - many years it never went away until the warmth of spring. As beautiful as it can be, it wears on you very quickly after the first snowfall. Thank goodness you have some great viewing lined up to cozy inside with after all your shoveling!
Hi all, hope you had a Merry Christmas. Also wishing everyone a happy healthy New Year, and more enjoyable reading here about our shows.
Thanks, sheerwater, but Suter is too pretty for me. I would have liked Parker to do a reboot.
Oooph on snow. The charm of it is for the young, before shoveling becomes a chore. Especially since He Who Must Be Obeyed needs his tootsies massaged on his walks when they get too cold - he would eat the booties they actually sell for dogs. Ah well, he is wonderful company.
I would have liked Parker to do a reboot.
OMG, I never thought of this. I am a big fan of Nathaniel Parker...Yes, yes, yes!! Now that would be perfect.

(0: - read sideways, no emojis here! Thanks, Brit, I like my detectives gnarled, grizzled, grey, and growly.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!
Solar, I think we here in the west are getting your east coast weather. Rain in the forecast this week, and we've had just a few little drifts of snow! Brit, did I ever mention that we've been feeding a wild rabbit for quite a few years. Pretty sure it's not the original but likely a younger member of the same family!
We did a weeny roast with friends on the Eve, then dinner hosted by my eldest son and his family on the Day. They have set a date/location for the wedding, March in Mexico. Hubs and I will not attend as he has been having heart issues and we just don't want to deal with an emergency evac! But, back to the present - now that Damon is running and has quite a few words in his vocabulary, the day was really entertaining! Picture the 'singing/dancing xmas Cactus - superimpose my grandbaby - it would be identical!! LOL
I have been watching Vera, season 11 and working myself towards the finale.
Happy Holidays, Appara!
I love your weenie roasts! Give me a good hot dog anytime. Yum.
Yes, I do remember you mentioning that you feed a wild rabbit, so good of you as they do need an extra bit of help with food. ❤️
I think you made a good decision about not going to your son's destination wedding due to your Hub's health issues. I have read two accounts just recently of people who had major health situations while visiting abroad - one was someone visiting here in the States from the UK, and it was not good to say the least. In both cases, the people involved did not purchase travel health insurance for the trip; in one case because the premium was so high due to ongoing health issues (it was close to $3,000 if I remember correctly), they took a chance that everything would be okay, and this time the odds were against them.
Unfortunately they wound up in the hospital here in Florida. They are now responsible for the entire bill and we all know how much healthcare costs in the US. There are times when you have to be cautious and practical even though I know you would love to be there for your son and future daughter-in-law. This is one of those times.
I can only imagine how much fun Christmas was with Damon!
Deedee, I just finished the last episode drop of "Shetland" and I am loving this storyline! As I was watching I kept thinking, I hope this continues and they don't try to wrap it up quickly, as I wasn't sure if it was to continue for the entire season, or be three episodes and that was it. I was delighted to see we were continuing on to the next episode! So much intrigue and layers to this one. If fact, I will go as far as to say, more in depth and interesting than what we were given in the last season. It certainly is keeping my interest.
I have been under the weather since after Christmas, so I have been house bound and foggy headed. I found myself returning to an old favorite - didn't think I would do it, but there I was turning on the first episode "Ballykissangel"!
I thought I wouldn't be going back, I finished S4/5 about six months ago. Did a few episodes of S6, but I stop once Niamh departs from the stories - too many characters are missing and it doesn't have the same feel; particularly without Tony Doyle's, Quigley - even though the original writer came back to write the last season. But... there I was once again.
I guess in some ways this is good as I am close to ending my re-watches of "Still Open All Hours" and "Bergerac". I have a few more episodes left to watch of both. So that leaves me little fall back "comfort viewing" moving forward. I do still have " Midnight Diner" on Netflix. Food for the soul that is, I eke that out, only one episode at a time to make it last longer.
I need to correct myself, when speaking of "Shetland" I meant this season's storyline was "more in-depth and interesting than Doug Henshall's last season" - not the previous season with Calder and Tosh which I thought was good.
My stack of Shetlands is wearing down . One thing about Perez is that off the job he deals with things we all deal with , aging parents , mother dying , father coming down with signs of dementia . Common every day stuff , makes him more real.
Solar, Jimmy Perez is one of my all time favorite characters/people in a TV series. You hit it right on the head, everything about him felt real, that was in part due to Douglas Henshall's portrayal - he was perfectly cast for that role, but credit also has to be given to the writers who crafted a believable human being who was dealing with circumstances that happen to all of us in life. Even raising his step daughter and sharing that responsibility with Duncan - which did not always go smoothly, was portrayed in a way that felt believable. I have always said that Jimmy Perez is one of the loveliest men I ever have ever met (in fiction and in real life).
Happy New Year! 🎉
Yeah Brit .. and the scenery in Shetland is something I never get tired of ... such beautiful land and sea scapes .
Happy New Year to ya as well
