The BBC have announced that the thirteenth doctor will be Jodie Whittaker. This will cause quite a stir as Jodie will be the first female taking the lead role in Doctor Who.
She was revealed in a Doctor Who trailer that was broadcast on BBC One at the end of the Wimbledon men's singles final. The Broadchurch star succeeds Peter Capaldi, who took the role in 2013 and leaves in this year's Christmas special. Jodie will make her debut on the show this Christmas.
Please do share your thoughts and comments about the first female Doctor, below.

Unfortunately that's the way it is - if you change, it seems like it's out of obligation.
If you don't then you're not seen as progressive enough.
Personally I don't mind, but they said that they always wanted the 13th Doctor to be a woman. I would have preferred if they weren't looking based on gender, but solely on what they could bring to the role.
(I'm not saying she shouldn't have got the role, just that it seems to have been a given)
Anyway, I guess we'll see at Christmas.
It was inevitable in our times of PC and stuff. It's actually should be a black actress of asian descent :))) And there was so many jokes about The Doctor being a woman, so it was doomed to happen )))
On the serious note I'd say why not. A bit controversial though, so it could either be a breath of fresh air or a complete disaster. But definitely interesting to watch. And the result will heavily depend on who will be the Doctor's companion and how real the chemistry is gonna be.
@Jan thanks, never seen this sketch, it's hilarious )) Make me think though, that maybe Atkinson is really could be a good choice for the 14th Doctor, if the series survive of course :)
Not thrilled they cast a woman, female characters are just boring to me. This also reeks of casting to shut the fanboys up. I'm willing to give it a chance and see, but, nope not very excited.
Reminds me of the Rowan Atkinson sketch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do-wDPoC6GM
Honestly, I know very little about her, which I quite like. I'm one of the few people that never watched Broadchurch. I absolutely will give her a chance & not judge beforehand.
If it works, great! Anything has to be better than Capaldi :)
Not about her being a good actress or not. The Doctor is and always has been a man, seriously this is like casting a bloke to play Wonder Woman.
Give the woman a chance, she is a good actress :)
