Acquired vs Watched - Watchlist View

Cadence wrote 9 years ago: 1

Hey all! First, thank you for implementing the acquired (and skipped) options on the watchlist! I find it really useful :). I had one question about how it works. I tend to 'check off' most recent episodes via the watchlist; however, now, if I mark it as acquired, it disappears entirely from the watchlist (as it does with a 'watched' episode'). Then, I have to go into each specific show listings to mark it as watched after 'acquiring' it. Would there be a way to keep everything acquired on the watchlist?

Also, in my profile, I believe that 'acquired' has counted towards my watch total.

Thanks again!

It's a very new features, that have been added today.

We should let them few days to deploy it correctly. There is few bump, it's to be expected.

Thanks for your quick feedback :) We'll listen to what everyone has to say over the next couple of days and make tweaks if necessary.

I'd agree that it would be better to keep "acquired" episodes on the watch list. I'd like to use it as a method to keep track of what I've got on the DVR all listed in one place instead of opening each program and then episode list to see what options I have for watching.

Hello!

Thanks so much for the addition of the acquired property! I don't know if you wanted our comments/suggestions on the blog or here, so let's try here (please move this post if necessary)

For the everyday use, I see few bumps:

- to put a status to an episode, we need two clicks, so it's slower than before. Would that be possible to have the three buttons on the same line? Maybe with just the pictos, if the text is too long. Or just some checkbox on three different columns.

- in the watchlist, when we mark an episodes as acquired, it disappear totally and count as watched for the progress bar.

- still on the watchlist, there is no way (or i haven't find it yet) to see the acquired episodes (which is usually the watchlist), so this version is more an acquired list. Maybe there should be a filter who allow us to switch between views?

So, yes, just few thoughts :)

I agree that an "acquired" episode should stay visible on the watchlist. Hence the name "watchlist", it shows you what to watch, if the episode is acquired you still have to watch it :)

Edit: Calendar shows acquired episodes as watched, it should also say acqired with the corresponding highlight color.

I'd quite like an option to return to the previous method of just clicking on the eye symbol to mark an episode as "Watched". Most of what I watch is watched live, streamed, or watched and then deleted, so it doesn't make much sense for me to mark episodes as "Acquired", and the drop-down means that what used to take one click now takes two.

Acquired episodes will now show up on the watchlist again, and won't count towards the progress!

FYI: You can mark an episode as watched in a single smooth mouse movement by clicking the dropdown, holding down the mouse button, moving your mouse pointer down to "Watched", then releasing the mouse button.

Keep the feedback coming though. It's unlikely that we'll switch to a UI with 4 different buttons (we've definitely mocked that one up, but the result is a mess) but perhaps there are more tweaks possible.

I know this has already been stated, but it is really quite annoying to have to click the dropdown list and then scroll down to the option you want. If all of them as buttons is too messy, I would suggest just having a button for "watched" and a dropdown list for the rest. I mean it is the watchlist, not the acquired list, and I do think overall people will use the watched function more frequently than any of the others. Just my two cents.

By the way, I do appreciate the addition of the new buttons, and am still encouraging a "rewatched" button! :D

You could remove one entry by swiping it to the side. This wouldn't add another button.

Is it possible to bulk skip episodes, like how you can bulk watch them? Tried to figure it out earlier but couldn't.

eherberg wrote 9 years ago: 1

I also like the simple click-to-watch. I do suspect most use the watchlist for that purpose - but I imagine this is something an analysis of user habits will answer one way or another when you look at site data. A possible suggestion that answers both needs: A simple 'watch' icon on the calendar would give a quick way for people to speed-click watched status that would possibly be even faster than the watchlist itself.

Seconding the calendar watch button, I'd love that.

Running latest stable Chrome on Win10, this function doesn't work. When I release the mouse button over "watched" it gets highlighted but not clicked, still have to to a second click. The 4 icons without text next to each other would be better looking and faster.

Also a bulk acquire episodes would be great :)

When marking episodes as acquired they are showing up as episodes watched in your stats. I'm kinda quirky in that I like to actually see my true viewing stats, which is why I haven't been marking older episodes as watched. I had hoped that by marking them as acquired I could make this feature work to my own purpose of knowing I had seen them without it affecting my stats. Any chance of fixing that?

Wouldn't "Skipped" make more sense for those? Either way it'll shortly be fixed that your stats will only count episodes actually marked as "Watched". :)

well I guess that depends how you look at it. lol But either way the skipped function also shows up as watched on stats right now, so glad to hear that fix is in the works. Thanks to all staff for speedy replies and hard work. Really loving this site.

The good thing about having multiple states is that it will make your stats a lot more accurate.

It seems like old 'bug' is back thanks to this change.

If you mark last remaining episode as watched, show's title will remain on the page until you do a refresh.
