Ratings Roundup Week of February 4, 2018

NBC sat back and watched the ratings number roll in last week with the Super Bowl and the start of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Super Bowl LII led the way, and while the numbers were lower than in recent years, the 'big game' still pulled in over one hundred million people. This Is Us was the post game follow up and also put up big numbers. Olympics coverage started Thursday night with the Opening Ceremony dominating the evening on Friday. Ellen's Game of Games and The William Shatner-led travel series, Better Late Than Never wrapped up short seasons last week both shows ended on a high.

CBS premiered Big Brother: Celebrity Edition to high numbers last week while 9JKL wrapped its season with a whimper and is likely done. Kevin Can Wait and Man with a Plan turned in numbers equal to last week while Scorpion dipped a tenth. Most of the rest of the schedule last week was reruns, something we'll see a lot of over the next two weeks.

In an announcement that surprised no one, ABC stated Once Upon A Time would end with the current season. Child Support also closed out its short, schedule plugging season with its lowest numbers; even for a cheap-to-make game show, it has not done well and probably won't see any more episodes made in future. How To Get Away With Murder sank last week against Olympics coverage; not sure that can be used as an excuse however as both Grey's Anatomy and Scandal held steady the same night.

FOX announced last week The Four: Battle for Stardom was renewed for another season, not surprising as the reality show put up consistent numbers. The Resident bounced back last week and if it can maintain those kinds of numbers, should hear good news in a few months. Lucifer gained a couple of tenths over last week as well while The X-Files and Lethal Weapon were steady.

No real surprises over at The CW last week, with every program airing new episodes pretty much a carbon copy of last week's numbers. Reruns of Whose Line Is It Anyway? pulled more viewers than Valor did in the same slot and beat out all of the CBS produced shows on the network as well. It's getting more and more difficult for Dynasty, Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to justify their continued existence when reruns of a summer show beat them.

With Olympics coverage getting into full swing next week, expect every network to run a lot of repeats. If your favorite scripted show actually airs new episodes during this time, that's not a good sign as the network is using it as schedule filler and saving other shows for later in the Spring.

Yeah, I saw that the other day. I hope the show will find a way to bring back Yul Vazquez back as the Rev in some sort of a recurring role.

@gmpugs You asked last week, Midnight, Texas has been renewed
