Rating Roundup Week of May 5, 2019

ABC posted most of its renewal news Friday afternoon. Bless The Mess somehow squeaked a second season. The Kids Are Alright, and Splitting Up Together weren't so lucky, both were cancelled. Fans of The Rookie were happy, their show was renewed. Grey's Anatomy got a two year extension, renewed through at least 2021. The Fix was cancelled, along with Speechless (no surprise there), For the People, and Whiskey Cavalier. Still no word on some of the reality shows.

CBS also posted late Friday renewals. Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver, Madam Secretary, Man with a Plan, SEAL Team, SWAT, and Bull were all renewed. Of the new fall comedies, only The Neighborhood survived. Fam, Murphy Brown, and Happy Together were all cancelled. Surprisingly, Life In Pieces also got the ax. No word on Ransom or The Code at this point.

NBC had most of its schedule already renewed. Fans of Blindspot get one more season. World of Dance was also renewed. This Is Us was renewed for a whopping three more seasons. That may be a first. I Feel Bad was cancelled. Still no word on Abby's, A.P. Bio, The Enemy Within, or the The Village. Abby's and probably A.P. Bio will be quietly written off when they don't appear on the Fall schedules.

FOX had a couple of shocking cancellations with the news Star and The Cool Kids were both axed. No surprise really that Lethal Weapon was cancelled, the same for Proven Innocent and The Passage. The Orville was renewed. No word yet on the reality shows, though all of them will probably be back for another season.

The CW was business as usual, all of their programs already know their fates. Network execs may start looking up if they can un-renew things like Dynasty and In The Dark. Sub-500,000 viewers is not the way to run a network, no matter what kind of deal you have with the streaming services.

Dag NCIS:LA is the lowest watched of the franchise. I hope I won't be losing one of my faves soon.

gmpugs posted 6 years ago

With the exception of a few established ones like Young Sheldon and Mom. You could make the argument with Big Bang as well, but I've felt that the writing has been pretty bad since season 10. I only kept watching through the series finale, hoping it would get back to how it was in the earlier seasons.

LadyShelley posted 6 years ago

No. CBS did not have much luck with the comedies this season.

gmpugs posted 6 years ago

Not really surprised that Fam got canned, the few episodes I watched while giving it a chance weren't that good (in my opinion). Happy that the shows I like got renewed. :)
