The CW execs finally gave a hint last week of what they plan to do with the network moving forward. During a conference call with investors, it was stated that the network would need to find new ways to become profitable and that it would focus more on unscripted shows, news, and sports. That statement was walked back a bit a few days later, with the additional information that original scripted programming would still have a place on the network. Needless to say, fans of CW shows are justifiably worried about the future of their favorite shows. This feeling only increased when neither The Winchesters nor Walker: Independence received any sort of back nine episode order. Flames were further fueled at the end of the week when Colin Mochrie announced on Twitter that Whose Line Is It Anyway? would be ending after the current broadcast year. Fans of any currently airing series on the network should be prepared at this point for the news that their favorite show will be cancelled by the end of the season.

ABC saw more losses for its two freshman shows last week. The Rookie: Feds lost one hundred thousand viewers. Even with that back nine order, chances are the show will be cancelled at the end of the season. Alaska Daily lost another four hundred thousand viewers last week. Add to that the fact that the show did not receive any sort of back order and it's fair to say it is likely done. Station 19 picked up one hundred thousand viewers. Grey's Anatomy lost four hundred thousand viewers. Neither show is in any danger. The Rookie and The Good Doctor each lost one hundred thousand viewers they couldn't afford.

CBS continued to see good numbers from two of its rookie shows. East New York picked up five hundred thousand viewers. Fire Country had a bump of two hundred thousand. So Help Me Todd lost six hundred thousand viewers. As long as that was just a blip, the show should be fine. If that dip is the first sign of waning interest, however, the show might find itself in a bit of a pickle come the spring. CSI: Vegas lost another five hundred thousand viewers, making it the lowest-rated scripted drama on the network. Not the place fans were hoping for. It's going to be another nail-biter to see if the show manages to squeak a third-season renewal.

NBC premiered Lopez vs Lopez to middling numbers. Young Rock returned low, so low in fact that it is likely done. Quantum Leap picked up one hundred thousand viewers and seems to have settled. La Brea was even. Both shows are at the low end of the ratings compared to the Chicago and Law & Order powerhouses, but they might squeak a renewal, especially with the end of New Amsterdam this season and the fact that the network's comedies are once again performing poorly.

FOX feasted on sports last week. Between an NFL over-run and the World Series, the network saw some of its best ratings in years. Next week it will fall back down to Earth with the return of its normal slate of programming.

With the election this week, schedules will be skewed to accommodate the news coverage. The fall season is just about wrapped up. How did your favorite shows fare through the first half of the season?

:)
For those keeping score, these are the shows we have yet to hear about:
All American
All American: Homecoming
Criss Angel's Magic with the Stars
** Gotham Knights (yet to premiere and at this point, it may never premiere though Misha Collins says they are still filming)
Kung Fu
Masters Of Illusion
Penn & Teller: Fool Us
** Recipe For Disaster (another freshman show yet to premiere)
Superman & Lois
Walker
Walker: Independence (no back nine order, likely done)
The Winchesters (same situation as W:I)
World's Funniest Animals
Right? I'm rather bummed that they're cancelling what seems to be everything on there.
I agree. Nothing that is produced by Warners or CBS will be renewed (so that's basically everything). A week ago, I would have said Penn & Teller and Whose Line would be safe since they are both cheaper shows to produce and do fairly well ratings-wise, but after Colin's twitter grenade, I'm not so sure Fool Us will survive the bloodbath either.
The news was disturbing but unsurprising. I don't think any of the current CW shows will survive past 2023. They will either be cancelled or they will be forced to end their run. It's such a huge letdown. The CW used to be my favorite Big 5 network. Now its future seems bleak. Such a shame. ☹️
