Ratings Roundup for the Week of October 13, 2024

CBS finally held its premiere week last week. Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage premiered to good numbers. The latest spin-off of The Big Bang Theory should have no problem getting renewed, assuming it holds onto that audience. Venerable NCIS opened down about four hundred thousand viewers from its finale in May. The series is in no danger. New addition, NCIS: Origins, opened with okay numbers. Unless it completely tanks in the coming weeks, it will be renewed. Tracker opened its sophomore season to big numbers, pulling in over a million viewers over its finale. FBI opened its seventh season down about a million viewers from its finale. FBI: International picked up five hundred thousand viewers, while FBI: Most Wanted was even with its last episode in May. Matlock returned after a three-week break on a new night and lost over a million viewers from its premiere. Elspeth was down two hundred thousand viewers from its finale. Uncancelled SWAT premiered low. Fire Country opened its third season well, picking up five hundred thousand viewers from its lead-in. Blue Bloods returned to wrap up the back half of its final season to okay numbers.

ABC enjoyed another ratings boost from Monday Night Football last week, one of the few ratings highlights for the network. High Potential lost four hundred thousand viewers. The Golden Bachelorette was up one hundred thousand viewers. 9-1-1 lost a million viewers from the previous week, which pulled down the entire Thursday night lineup. Doctor Odyssey was also down a million viewers, while Grey's Anatomy was down three hundred thousand viewers. Abbott Elementry was down one hundred thousand viewers from its premiere the previous week.

NBC execs watched as Brilliant Minds shed more of its dwindling audience last week. The freshman drama lost another three hundred thousand viewers. Found was down four hundred thousand viewers, and the only question remaining is which one is cancelled first. Happy's Place opened well, a rare win for one of the network's comedies. If it can maintain that audience, it will be an easy renewal.  Chicago Med was up one hundred thousand viewers. Chicago Fire was up two hundred thousand viewers, and Chicago PD picked up four hundred thousand viewers. Law & Order was down four hundred thousand viewers. Law & Order: SVU lost six hundred thousand viewers. It would not be much of a surprise if one of these were either cancelled or shifted to Peacock to join Law & Order: Organised Crime. Lopez vs Lopez returned at its usual low, losing half of its lead-in audience. The show has managed to scrape a renewal every year, but its luck may be running out.

FOX feasted on an NFL overrun (final numbers were not released) last Sunday, only to turn around and see more big numbers for the Mets/Dodgers playoff game. Rescue HI-Surf lost another three hundred thousand viewers it couldn't afford. Not to be outdone, Murder in a Small Town dropped six hundred thousand viewers. Chances are one of these two will be cancelled. Right now, it's likely to be Murder that gets the axe. Accused was down four hundred thousand viewers. Its chances of another season are slim.

CW premiered the first episode of The Wranglers last week. The good news: four hundred thousand more people watched the premiere over the preview. The bad news: that is still only a little over one hundred and fifty thousand people tuning in to the show. Even cheap shows still have to have viewers to get renewed, and that's probably not going to cut it. Trivial Pursuit lost a few tens of thousands of viewers. Scrabble was up about ten thousand viewers. Superman & Lois was about even with the previous week.

Now that CBS has held its premiere week, most of the fall season shows have had at least one episode air. What new shows are you planning to stick with this season?

I was never a fan of Big Bang (gasp!) so I've given both spin-offs a pass. With this information, it will be interesting to see just how big a drop-off there is with its second episode.

I enjoyed the NCIS: Origins opener. I've watched some version of NCIS since it started, though I stopped watching the original when Michael Weatherly and Pauley Perette left. If it gets the chance to settle in and grow, it could be good for several years. I would love to see how Gibbs' three wives get played, and eventually meeting Ducky and a young DiNozzo if it lasts long enough. (Who would you get to play a younger David McCallum? We never get a clear timeline on when Gibbs moved to the DC office, but Ducky would be in his early 50s when he meets Gibbs? Sound right?)

Ducky could easily be played by Jamie Bamber, but I feel it'd have to be someone relatively unknown. As for DiNozzo, not a clue!

As a massive fan of Big Bang, and an ok fan of Young Sheldon (Altho I did quite like it), I wasn't expecting much from Georgie & Mandy & I wasn't wrong.
The laughter added to it in scenes that weren't even remotely funny absolutely ruined it for me! I'll give it a couple more episodes, but I cannot see it lasting very long, which is a shame.
Meemaw & Mary being guests in the first episode didn't help, and Missy in the next episode probably won't make much difference either :(

Om a brighter note, I did enjoy NCIS Origins. Austin Stowell seems the perfect choice for a young Gibbs!

I felt the same about it, I mainly watched to see how bad it was going to be (I wonder if that was the case for how well they did with the ratings). I may DVR and watch the next episode with Missy in it.
