Born and raised in Washington D.C., Jon Bernthal left America to study at The Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia, while also playing pro baseball in the European professional baseball federation. Noticed by the executive director of Harvard University Institute for Advanced Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts he returned there to study and graduate with an M.F.A. in 2002. His early credits include the role of Manny in the 2002 film Mary/Mary, followed that same year with a guest appearance in an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
