Born in Amstelveen, Famke Janssen began her career as a model in her native Holland, moving to the USA in 1984. Needing more of a challenge, she began taking literature and writing classes at Columbia University, leaving after two years to pursue her acting career. She made her feature film debut in 1992 in Fathers and Sons, along with a guest appearance in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Following her first starring role in the 1995 film Lord of Illusions, she landed the female lead in the James Bond movie, GoldenEye.
