Q's & A's

Right now, in my experience you probably have to post in this thread and have the staff member delete the episodes. Even Trusted Contributors only have limited deletion powers.
That thread seems to be the catchall for staff requests. If there's another one, my apologies.

For generic requests for changes that you're not allowed to make for yourself, you can use this thread: http://www.tvmaze.com/threads/55/edit-requests

If I follow you correctly, the site isn't presently set up to allow major reshuffling of seasons/episodes by outsiders. I'll keep my hands to myself! :-)
To whom and how shall I report errors? Just for a few examples, regarding "Modern Marvels":
The Panama Canal is listed as s01e03 (correct) and as s02e02 (buzz!).
The Tennessee Valley Authority is listed both as s02e09 and s03e02.
"Las Vegas" is listed as s02e04 and s02e12. (My records indicate it's season 02e03, but since I never found a definitive or even a "close-enough to make do" list to rely on, I won't insist that my guess is correct.)
My records indicate "Balloons" is s02e01 OR s01e24 (!). I stuck it on as s01e07 after I realized my limitations, gave up and came here.

Hello,

I completely wiped them and added them using a different source, please let me know if there are still mistakes :)

cheers
Juan

Hello everyone, the person that added "Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda", why did you indicate it was 45 minutes in length. This show has never been 45 minutes in length and it has never had 1 Episode that was 45 minutes in length! I corrected the scheduled air length from 45 to 60 minutes and also corrected the length on all 9 Episodes of the current Season 5.

Whoever has been adding episodes to this series since it was added to the site has failed to look at the airtime lengths that the system automatically populates and therefore all episodes have continued to be wrong as well.

Can you please not be in such a hurry to add a show to the site and pay more attention to what you are doing?

everyone makes mistakes, no one does it intentionally, please be nice and friendly, there is no need to get angry :)

David this is a Question and that is why I am putting it here in the Q's & A's thread and it is for only you to answer/respond to please? What is the advantage of using Season 2014, Season 2015, Season 2016 etc. instead of the normal Season 1, Season 2, Season 3 please?

Also if I set up a show and added a lot of Episodes into that show all under Season 1 why is it okay for someone else to come along at a later date and change all of the Season 1 Episodes that I had set up to then become Season 2015? This show has a total of 71 Episodes in it so far and before I change the Season 2015 back to what I had set up originally of Season 1 I wanted to first clarify why using it is a good thing. Secondly I wanted to also get your permission without upsetting the person who did this to change all of these episodes back to what I had please?

Also I wanted to know if what they did is kosher here to do so for no good reason when there was not any problem with the show or episodes and if so I guess it is then okay for anyone to change anything on any show that someone else has previously taken care of properly? If so I have seen a few shows that have terrible show photos on them that in my opinion should be replaced with better ones. Also shows being added without taking the time to add any cast into some shows as well.

I am not being rude, or condescending, or augmentative nor em I upset or as someone put it yesterday nor am I "enraged" I am just asking a few simple questions to get a better understanding please?

P.S. - No caps, no use of even 1 explanation point and no letters or words have been bolded.

If you set airing times from Mon to Fri or Every day, it will automatically change to 2015, 2016 by importer as there are quite many huge shows that pretty much air all day with just a short break. To avoid confusion it was set to years and didn't have any episode numbering, just airing date, however this main purpose was for these huge shows.

Although I'm sure Jan or David could explain you this in finer details.

Thomas is correct, for shows set to "daily" or Monday to Friday", it automatically suggests to use season 2014, season 2015 and so on.

The reason this was implemeted is that all those daily shows, talk shows, that run all year and cannot be divided into seasons have a proper order.

I agree that this is faulty for shows that maybe run for 4 weeks daily, those should be numbered as all other stuff (season 1, 2 and so on).

Hope that explained it :)

cheers

Since you took the time to respond and were nice about your comment I will respond back to you as well in kind. First off the show in question only airs Monday - Friday, once each day for only 1 hour and every single episode that has aired since day 1 has aired at the same exact time from 9 to 10 AM no other time. Therefore if I am understanding 1/2 of what you are saying here sir, that blows that theory out of the water? The show in question here also has had regular Episode #'s since Episode 1, no blank episode #'s. And since it was changed from Season 1 to Season 2015 all the episodes still have valid #'s on them. If you are saying that the person who added extra episodes did not add them in manually like I do as I do not know any other way to do it and they let them add themselves in to the show by some automated means and the site is set up to change any show like this from a valid Season of 1, 2, 3 etc. to an invalid Season year then that system thing in my opinion is a flaw and should never have been set up to do this? That needs to be corrected if that is the case?

BTW in case you might have thought I was talking about you having done this I will let you know that it was not you! I have yet to say the name of the show because I wanted to hear what David had to say 1st and see if he even wanted to know the show name?

Now if you could please expound a little bit more on what you were trying to tell me I would greatly appreciate it sir? From the way I read it, it sounds like you are saying "quite many huge shows that pretty much air all day with just a short break" because this makes no sense the way it is written? I don't know of even 1 show at least not in the U.S. as I do not look at other countries where even 1 show airs all day long. All the shows I have ever seen are 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes and maybe some news show that sir 5 or 6 hours long each day but you will have to show me some or even just 1 in the U.S. that airs New "episodes pretty much air all day" that really sounds very far fetched!

Thank you anyways for trying to help me out understand what happened but you have confused me even more now, sorry, no offense but this old many does pretty much stay confused! Sorry I was so long winded with this response to your response sir?

Sorry Juan but it is still clear as Mud to me yet!

I'm not sure what Forum or thread this should go in?

Juan, you added new episodes to “Teen Mom” today however those same episodes are already active on the correct show of “Teen Mom 2”. Teen Mom is no longer airing and Teen Mom 2 is now the active show of the 2 according to MTV and several TV sites. I removed all 3 episodes from “Teen Mom” that were showing in Season 6 that are also showing in Season 6 under “Teen Mom 2” which is the correct series. I also changed the status of “Teen Mom” to Ended.

Maybe a New thread titled "F.Y.I." would be appropriate for things like this until such time as we get some kind of a private messaging system of some type so only 1 person then sees it?

Sorry Juan but it is still clear as Mud to me yet!

Ok,

all those daily talk shows like Conan, Letterman, Jay Leno, Colbert or daily news shows who run all year (with a few interruptions), those shows do not really have "seasons", they have like 200 episodes a year. For those shows we use the 2013 , 2014, 2015.

If you create a show and set it to daily or Monday-Friday, it automatically sets the show to the 2013, 2014, 2015 and so on order, as it assumes, we are talking about a show that has 100 or 200 episodes a year.

But of course there are also shows who run daily or from Monday-Friday, which only have 20 or 30 episodes and air all those eps within a few weeks, some Disney shows do that for example. For those shows it will also suggest the 2013, 2014, 2015 schedule.
But this schedule is wrong for such a show. There we have to set it manuall,y to season 1 , season 2, season 3.

So sometimes one of us makes a mistake and does not handle it like it should be, if you see such an incident, please tell us and we will fix it :)

I hope this explanation was bettter :)

cheers
Juan

Oops,

thank you for noticing this, will fix this asap :)

You can easily create a new thread for those things and name it for example, "Errors to be fixed"

Is there a way for me to change my time zone on the site. When I just now submitted an episode it indicated my time was 5:20 PM but it is only 1:20 PM. EST where I am and I have no clue what time zone would currently be in 5:20 PM right now but not any place in North America, maybe in Greenland?

Since "airdates in your local timezone" is currently the top requested feature, there's a good chance this will be added in the future :-) When that happens, I'll make sure to display any other absolute timestamps on the site in your local timezone as well.

Juan already explained it pretty well. In short, for shows that air very frequently but don't have an official/former season numbering (mostly nightly talk shows) we use the year number as the season. This prevents discussions about when a new season number should start exactly.

If you have any questions about whether a specific show is listed correctly, post a link and we'll check it out. :)

Sorry, David but I have no clue what you are saying here? What is a timestamp whatever anyways and what does it have to do with the price of eggs in china anyways? Let me rephrase my question by saying why does the site think I am in a timezone 4 hours ahead of what I am really at? If this is not something we have any control on as far as setting it correctly why is it even showing a time anyways, especially one that is not correct?

Who set this time thing up to begin with and set it up to be incorrect as it makes no sense whatsoever? If it can't be fixed why have the darn thing as it is a very useless tool that doesn't help anyone as it is?

Sorry David but no he did not and you did not help either? Let me try to rephrase my question so that maybe I will get an answer this time to my question? First off is it done by the system automatically if someone uses the auto download method whatever that is? Secondly if a person uses the so-called auto download method will this happen every time to every show? When I correct the Season # back to #1 from 2015 and someone sometime again in the future uses the so called auto download method is it going to change ALL 70+ episodes back to Season 2015 again and if so this system "enhancement" stinks in it's current form?

With my questions aside that idea to have the system do that was very lame indeed. If a show doesn't have an Official Season # 1, 2, 3 etc. so what then just change them manually on 1 January of each year or like a lot of shows that their new season begins in September each year have the Season # change on any date each September?

Well,

I cannot explain it any better, sorry :(

To answer your questions:

No, the system will not change it back after you edited it, it will only do it when the show is created.

And david has changed it an hour ago, now it will only do the 2012, 2013, 2014 and so on seasoning for a show that airs daily and has the attribute "talk show".

This way all other shows won't get affected by it anymore :)

cheers
Juan
