Upcoming series American Jesus has been retitled The Chosen One as evidenced by Netflix's official page. Can someone please rename the show on TVmaze? And some tragic news: two of the actors were killed and six more were injured in an accident after filming had commenced in Mexico. The production of the series has been temporarily suspended. For anyone interested, more details on Deadline.

if they are based on the same books, a reboot sounds reasonable to me :)

nonsense.
by this logic, each subsequent show about Sherlock Holmes should be considered a reboot of Alan Wheatley's one (which you don't have by the way).
reboot sounds reasonable when one show is explicitly announced as a reboot of another, as Walker, or 4400.

do both shows tell the same story with the same characters?

There are two pages for James Stoteraux: a proper one (James Patrick Stoteraux) and a misspelled one (James Storeaux). Can someone please merge them? And can we please rename the page James Stoteraux and have James Patrick Stoteraux as an AKA? Everywhere he is credited as James Stoteraux, not by his full name. Thank you! :)

same characters, totally different stories.
they are based on different books from the same series of nearly 20 novels about Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee.
for what it's worth, it is rather a TV reboot of the 1991 film The Dark Wind with Lou Diamon Phillips.

Okay I took a look at the Skinwalkers series and Dark Winds, and I do not think they should be linked.

The Skinwalkers PBS series was straight adaptations of the books. (Think the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes)

This new show Dark Winds, is using the characters and settings, but is a completely original story they are telling, It's not based on any of the books (Think the recent BBC Sherlock series)

The characters are the same in name only. There's no production relationship linking the two shows.

There's no production relationship linking the two shows.

Same executive producer though (Robert Redford).

BTW, why does it say "Based on the Novel of" @ Tony Hillerman if it isn't considered to be?
