Yeah, I guess I just don't understand how if the first 4 episodes have already aired in the US on HBO, how that's not the "world premiere" dates as opposed to the iPlayer dates.

I would assume it's because iPlayer is airing all 8 at once, though it's a gray area since HBO would have had 4 first and iPlayer would have had 4 first. I hadn't heard of it until now, is HBO involved in the actual production? (like BBC and Hulu for Great Expectations)

Yes it is a co-production: https://rts.org.uk/article/daisy-may-cooper-stars-new-hbo-and-bbc-one-co-production-rain-dogs I obviously don't mind having multiple airdate lists, just confused as to why we would consider the iPlayer dates for the first 5 episodes as the "world premiere" when they're a full month after the actual world premiere of the show.

Aside from the one article provided I can't find anything to suggest HBO is a co-producer which is why the show was switched to BBC - the airdate owner for any show isn't dependent only on who airs the episodes first, this show is a BBC Studios/Sid Gentle production, so as per the data policies the show was switched to the BBC date.

Hi, Tom! Rain Dogs is indeed a BBC/HBO co-production. There are HBO press releases that describe it as an HBO Original and clearly mention that it's a co-production (RP1, PR2). There's even a BBC press release which mentions that HBO is a co-producer (PR). Aside from that, the first 5 episodes will air on HBO before they are streamed on BBCiPlayer. Only the last 3 episodes will have their world premiere on BBC iPlayer. Per our policy, I believe the show's airdate owner should be set to HBO, and the BBCiPlayer dates should be added as an alternate list. The show status should also be set to running. :)
